Chapter 1218
Hearing that, Joseph was even more surprised. Watching Danielโs cautious demeanor, he grew more puzzled. What was going on? Did Lucas have some kind of hidden secret? Or was his identity something else entirely? Why wouldnโt Daniel say? The whole matter left Joseph completely baffled.
When he tried to press further, Danielโs face showed clear impatience.
โI already told youโitโs better if you donโt dig into this. Why wonโt you listen?โ
Daniel looked shaken. โAnd let me give you some adviceโdonโt throw around words like โpretty boyโ again. If the wrong person hears you, youโll be done for.โ
At that, Joseph only scoffed. โDone for? Iโve said that right to his face before, and look at me, Iโm still perfectly fine, arenโt I?โ
Daniel stared at Josephโs misplaced confidence and gave up on arguing. No point persuading someone so determined to court trouble. If Joseph wanted to keep disrespecting Lucas, then so be it. The only reason Lucas hadnโt bothered with him before was because he couldnโt be bothered. And yet Joseph took that as proof Lucas was powerless, smug about it. The thought made Daniel want to laugh.
โEnough, Mr. Hunt. Iโve got nothing more to say. From here on, youโre on your own.โ
โAnd what about the partnership?โ Joseph pressed. He wasnโt ready to let it go. After all, heโd been following this project for a long time. Heโd even boasted to his father that he would secure it without fail. In the end, the project still showed no progress. He had sent so many people and given Daniel plenty of gifts, yet all he got was a vague โwait for the result.โ
โMr. Lewis, donโt you think this way of handling things is rather unfair?โ Josephโs eyes carried a hint of pressure, no longer as friendly as before.
Seeing that Joseph still wanted to press the matter, Daniel began to grow impatient. โThatโs enough. Iโve told you many timesโthe project will be discussed later.โ He stood up, turning his back on Joseph. โNo matter how much you say now, it wonโt change anything. As for the project, I really canโt give you a definite answer.โ
โButโฆโ
Joseph still wanted to fight for it. Yet Daniel had clearly lost all patience. He cut him off bluntly. โNo matter what you say, itโs useless. Iโve repeated myself enough times.โ
Looking into Danielโs stern expression, Joseph knew the matter was closed. If he kept lingering, it would only make him look rude. โFine, I understand.โ His face revealed no emotion.
When he finally left, Daniel sat back down in his chair. Staring at the closed office door, he couldnโt help spitting on the floor. Who did they think they were, daring to raise their voice in front of him? Did they even want this project done?
Especially someone like Josephโhe had already given him more attention than he deserved. Sure, he enjoyed the gifts Joseph sent, but whether he would actually cooperate was another story.
