He hadn’t expected things to unfold this way.

Could it really be that nowadays, even when someone did a good deed, they were suspected of having ulterior motives? No wonder people were less willing to help others these days.

What he didn’t realize was that Leonard’s suspicion hadn’t been wrong at all.

In the end, Leonard hailed a cab from the roadside, stopped at the florist he’d chosen in advance, bought a bouquet, and hurried over.

By chance, because Aurora had been delayed by the black-clad reporter, she finished later than expected, and the two ran right into each other.

Snapping back to the present, Leonard smiled at Aurora. “It’s fine. I just had a little accident on the way.”

Aurora’s concern showed–after all, they were friends.

“You’re really alright?”

Leonard shook his head, assuring her it was nothing.

But Megan’s sharp eyes caught the scrape on his arm.

In an instant, she stepped forward, grabbed his arm, and inspected it closely, her tone carrying a hint of scolding.

“Look at you, claiming you’re fine. Then what’s this on your arm? Don’t tell me you got into some kind of accident on the way here?”

Though she said it playfully, Aurora noticed something off.

Normally, Megan never wore her emotions on her sleeve. This was the first time Aurora had seen her so openly worried about someone.

Leonard was equally startled by her reaction. He froze for a long moment before stammering, “I–It’s nothing. You don’t need to be so worked up. I’m really fine.”

“Still insisting you’re fine?” Megan suddenly snapped, her tone sharp. “Look at your arm, it’s badly scraped. Do you even care about yourself? You’re a grown man, yet you make others worry for you!”

Her words left everyone stunned, especially Leonard, whose ears turned crimson.

He hadn’t expected Megan to be so forward today.

“What’s gotten into you?” Leonard asked in confusion.

It was the first time he had ever seen Megan like this, and he didn’t know how to react, especially with the way she was speaking–his heartbeat quickened.

Megan shot back irritably, “What do you mean, what’s gotten into me? I’m just worried about you, that’s all. You’re a grown man, yet you still make people worry. Can’t I care about you a little?”

Aurora chimed in from the side. “She’s right. This is the first time I’ve ever seen Megan fuss over someone like this.”

The moment those words left her mouth, Megan realized what she was doing.

She quickly let go of Leonard’s hand.

She even took a step back, putting some distance between them.

“I didn’t mean anything by it, don’t get the wrong idea.”

Megan turned her head, embarrassed, and stammered, “I just don’t like seeing a friend get hurt, so I worried about you. I didn’t think you’d… you’d be so careless.”

Her nerves had her tripping over her own words.

Lucas narrowed his eyes as he watched.

Seeing the scene unfold, a thought crossed his mind.

If that was the case, then perhaps Megan could be the one to pursue Leonard.

That way, he wouldn’t have to worry so much, nor would Leonard have the chance to hover around Aurora. Megan could keep him occupied instead.

Lucas let out a quiet chuckle. “I’ll admit, this is the first time I’ve seen Megan this concerned about someone. I’ve never seen her so flustered before.”
