Chapter 1267
Those words made Meganโs face flare bright red. She shot a glare at Lucas. โLucas, what nonsense are you spouting?โ
โAm I wrong? Even you probably didnโt realize how quickly you rushed over just now.โ
Flustered, Megan hurried back to Auroraโs side, hiding behind her. โDonโt talk nonsense. I only see him as a friendโthatโs why I acted like that.โ
Though she tucked herself behind Aurora, her voice still carried clearly.
Hearing this, a flicker of disappointment passed through Leonardโs eyes. He had thought her special concern for him meant she felt something more, but her swift denial showed it was only his own wishful thinking.
The realization left him feeling even heavier inside. His hand at his side slowly curled into a fist. Lucas caught every detail. His lips curved in a faint, knowing smile. Just as he suspected. This made things far simpler.
If he could steer Megan toward Leonard, then heโd no longer need to worry about Leonard hovering around Aurora.
Aurora smiled and soothed her. โAlright, alright, no oneโs accusing you. We get it. You two are just friends.โ
That reassurance finally calmed Megan a little. Leonard took a step closer to Aurora, but Megan panicked and quickly waved him off. โHey, heyโjust stay right there. Donโt come any closer.โ
Her rejection stung, and Leonardโs heart ached. In that moment, he felt like he had a lump in his throat he couldnโt swallow.
โAurora, I only meant to say I came to give you my congratulations, but something held me up on the way,โ Leonard explained earnestly.
Aurora didnโt mind. โItโs fine, youโre not really late. We were just about to head to dinner together.โ
Leonard was about to agree when his eyes met Lucasโ cold, unyielding gaze. He thought better of it. Lucas said nothing, only staring at him, but that was enough for Leonard to understandโit wasnโt the right time to linger.
He smiled at Aurora. โBetter not. I still have things to take care of. I mainly wanted to come and offer my congratulations. Now that I have, thatโs enough for me. Weโll meet again another time.โ
Hearing that, Lucas finally eased, his tension melting away. At least Leonard knew when to back off. With that, Lucas resolved more firmly to match Leonard with Megan. If those two ended up together, heโd never have to worry about Leonard disrupting Auroraโs peace again.
When Megan heard Leonard decline, outwardly she let out a sigh of relief, but inside she felt a pang of disappointment. She had been hoping to spend more time with him, and now that chance was gone so suddenly. She hadnโt even processed how things had shifted so fast.
Lucas caught every flicker of her reaction. Yes, he thought, the match was clearโthese two clearly had feelings for each other. And he would play matchmaker.
Aurora, seeing Leonard ready to leave, didnโt press him further. โAlright, I accept your congratulations. Weโll gather again when thereโs a chance.โ If he wanted to go, pushing him to stay would only seem impolite.
Leonard nodded without another word. It was obvious that staying any longer would only be unnecessary.
