Even that threat didn’t faze him. Before, the moment she mentioned Aurora’s name, Lucas would be instantly on edge, terrified she might actually run off and complain.

But seeing him remain so indifferent now left Megan fuming.

She puffed out her cheeks and pulled out her ultimate weapon.

“Lucas, if you keep treating me like this, I’ll spill the secret you asked me to keep.”

She had thought for sure that would shake him.

But Lucas only spared her a glance, his tone almost regretful. “Go ahead. I don’t care.”

Megan was confused. What was wrong with him today? She had just threatened him with his biggest secret, and he didn’t even flinch. If anything, he looked like he was waiting for drama.

This wasn’t just odd–this was downright alarming.

And soon, Megan found out why.

Aurora stepped out of the studio wearing sunglasses, two new employees trailing behind her. Megan immediately recognized them as the recruits who had just joined. Aurora was giving them instructions as they walked, acting as if she hadn’t noticed Lucas and Megan standing at the door.

Megan, ever oblivious, waved brightly. “Aurora, Lucas and I came to take you out for dinner.”

Lucas was speechless.

Through clenched teeth, he growled, “When did I ever say I was eating with you?”

“Oh come on, running into each other like this is fate. What’s the harm in all of us having a meal together?”

Lucas sighed and let it drop. Either way, he already knew Aurora wouldn’t agree, and that much was within his expectations.

But inside the courtyard, Aurora continued speaking to the new employees, acting as though she hadn’t even noticed the two of them standing at the gate.

That was when Megan finally sensed something was wrong.

She whipped her head toward Lucas. “Why is Aurora ignoring me? This isn’t right.”

“What’s not right? If you’re so curious, go ask her.” Lucas answered plainly.

He responded to everything, yet none of his answers offered anything concrete. Just like those lines people mocked online–every reply was a response, but none held substance.

Megan fell silent.

She glared at Lucas, frustrated. “Lucas, why are you so calm about this? If you keep acting like nothing’s wrong, don’t blame me if I really go tell Aurora everything.”

“Go ahead,” Lucas said without the slightest intention of stopping her.

Megan’s jaw dropped. She couldn’t understand it. How had her cousin’s attitude flipped completely just while she’d been asleep?

“Lucas, let me guess–Aurora already knows, doesn’t she?”

Lucas didn’t reply. He only gave her a single, quiet look.

That one glance told Megan all she needed to know.

Her face went blank before she shrieked.

“It’s over! Totally over!” Megan clutched her head in despair. “No wonder Aurora ignored me just now. She must be angry at me too–that’s why she acted like that!”

“Lucas, this is all your fault!” Megan jabbed a finger at Lucas, her courage running higher than usual.
