Chapter 1320
Lucas heard Meganโs words and showed almost no reaction. He even said calmly, โWhy are you blaming me for this? Did I ever actually cover your mouth and force you to keep it secret for me?โ
โOf course you did!โ Megan snapped back, glaring at Lucas with accusation written all over her face.
But Lucas remained utterly composed. He even had the leisure to fiddle with his watch as he spoke lazily, โThen think back carefully.โ
Megan did exactly that โ she replayed everything in her mind. And to her shock, Lucas had never actually covered her mouth. Everything had been her own assumption.
All he had done was throw out one line โ โYou know what the consequences will be if you talkโ โ and nothing more.
The realization hit her like lightning. She froze, pointing a trembling finger at Lucas. โLucas, how could you be so devious? Why would you trick me? Am I not your dearest cousin anymore? Doesnโt your conscience ache when you pull such heartless moves?โ
Lucas arched a brow, clearly amused. โConscience? Do you really think I need something like that?โ
Megan was speechless.
Fine. She had lost this round. After a long pause, she muttered, โLucas, Iโve always stood by you, but you still play tricks on me.โ
Lucas nodded without denying it. So, what if it was trickery? The point was, he had successfully dragged Megan down with him. This way, he wouldnโt have to face Auroraโs anger alone. From the very beginning, he had known keeping the truth from Aurora would be risky, so he needed someone close to her to share the burden. And Megan had been the perfect choice. This had been his plan all along.
Meganโs chest rose and fell with anger, but staring at Lucas, she realized she had no way out. He was her cousin, and with the kind of power he wielded, nothing she said would matter.
Megan stopped talking to Lucas. Since arguing was pointless, she decided it was better to wait until Aurora finished introducing things to the new employees, then find a chance to explain slowly. Her mind kept spinning for a solution. But no matter how many ideas she came up with, she reached the same conclusion โ she had to distance herself from this and pin everything on Lucas. That was the only way to protect her friendship with Aurora.
Lucas wasnโt as important as Megan. She understood that perfectly. He wasnโt her real brother, and even if he had been โ so what? A brother would still marry another woman one day. But Aurora was different. A best friend was for life, someone she had chosen herself, a family without blood ties. That was why Megan had to make things right with Aurora.
Besides, this whole mess really had been between her and Lucas. She couldnโt blame Aurora at all. The problem lay with them.
With that in mind, Megan quietly stood by the door, waiting with Lucas for Aurora to finish work. Aurora was clearly busy inside, and barging in now wouldnโt be appropriate.
At that moment, in the courtyard, Aurora was showing the two new employees around, introducing the layout of the studio.
