Chapter 1321
Both Hannah and Henry noticed Lucas and Megan standing by the door. But since Aurora had clearly seen them and chose not to react, it was obvious they must be her friends. Even so, this kind of interaction confused the two newcomers. Was this some kind of signal between friends?
Thinking it wasnโt their place as new employees to comment, they kept quiet.
Aurora continued her introduction. โThis is our meeting room. This is where weโll do most of our work. Later on, Iโll have computers set up for both of you. Oh, and the plants in the courtyardโdonโt move them around. But if you have time, you can help water them. They were left here by my previous landlord.โ
As she spoke of the plants, a soft glow touched her eyes. Clearly, she cared for these little lives with genuine affection.
Hannah nodded earnestly. โDonโt worry, boss, I understand.โ
Henry stayed silent, but he made a mental note of it. Since Aurora had mentioned it specially, it was obviously something important to her.
At the gate, Lucas and Megan remained standing like two wooden posts.
Meganโs legs were already starting to go numb, but when she glanced at Lucas, who was still standing straight as a board, she quickly straightened her own posture again. No, at such a critical moment, she couldnโt let Lucas outlast her. Lying to Aurora already weighed heavily on her conscience. If she couldnโt even manage to stand there and wait properly, Lucas would surely use that against her later. So, she resolved to stay put at the door, waiting for Aurora to finish so she could beg for forgiveness.
On the surface, Lucas looked perfectly calm. In reality, panic was churning inside him. What if Aurora refused to forgive him? Having Megan as a shield was useful for now, but that wasnโt a permanent solution. In the end, he was the one who had to live with Aurora.
Tightening his grip on the bouquet, Lucas realized he couldnโt just sit back and wait any longer. But Aurora clearly had no intention of coming out, as if determined to wear down his patience completely.
Lucas glanced at the timeโit had already been nearly half an hour past closing. The two new employees were quietly wondering about it too, but since Aurora showed no sign of stopping, they didnโt dare speak up. After all, it was only their first day.
Aurora also noticed some movement at the door. A quick look at the clock told her it was indeed late, far past the end of the workday. If she dragged things on any longer, it would be inappropriate, especially on their very first day. What if she scared off two promising new hires?
Just as she was about to dismiss them, she saw Lucas striding quickly toward them.
The moment Hannah noticed him coming closer, she realized with surprise just how striking his looks were. Standing next to Aurora, the two of them gave off an undeniable sense of harmonyโboth of them eye-catching in their own right.
Aurora could only sigh and said to the two employees, โLetโs end here for today. Be here on time tomorrow, and after this, Mr. Ian will guide you further.โ
