Edward didn’t mind Lucas‘ words at all. “You’d better keep an eye on the company. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re plotting.”

Diana gave a cold snort. “Exactly. I know you want a honeymoon, but finish your work at the company first. Don’t ruin your father’s and my peace of mind.”

Aurora glanced around. So, families could get along like this? She had thought families like Lucas‘ would surely be stricter. She hadn’t expected the atmosphere to be this light and cheerful.

Lucas chuckled, then looked at Aurora with mock grievance. “See? My parents are this domineering. Looks like our honeymoon trip will have to be postponed.”

“What are you saying?” Diana shot him a stunned look. “We never said you couldn’t go on a honeymoon. It’s just that you haven’t worked hard enough.”

“Haven’t I worked hard enough?” Lucas couldn’t hold back his protest. “If Dad hadn’t insisted on retiring at thirty, would I even be stuck working here? I’d already be enjoying life at home with my wife and kids.”

Aurora was speechless. She wasn’t ready to have kids that soon.

Edward wasn’t about to back down. “I call that early training. You just don’t know how good you’ve had it.”

“Alright, Dad, I’ve had plenty of training. Now I think it’s time you came back and took over the company.”

Edward was speechless.

When he looked up, he met Lucas‘ earnest gaze. Clearly, he wasn’t joking.

Edward tightened his grip on his fork and changed the subject. “Honey, try this crab meat–it’s really good.”

“Alright, I’ll give it a try,” Diana answered, indulging him.

The two of them ignored Lucas completely. Aurora looked from one to the other, then finally let out a small laugh.

Lucas shot Aurora a look of mock annoyance. “Honey, they’re ganging up on me, and you’re sitting there laughing at me.”

“It’s fine, I’m on the side of fairness.”

Diana burst out laughing, her smile so wide her teeth showed. “See, Aurora knows just what to say. That’s the difference with daughters–girls are soft and sweet, so much better to look at than boys.”

“So basically, I’m the extra one in this family now?”

Aurora couldn’t help finding it amusing to see Lucas acting jealous. Usually, he was always calm and steady in front of her. It was only in front of his parents that he seemed to slip back into the role of a child.

“Don’t take it to heart. Your parents are only trying to toughen you up,” Aurora smoothed things over.

She knew Edward and Diana weren’t really arguing, but she wanted to blend into the warmth of their family. The atmosphere was contagious. Compared to the tension she’d felt earlier, she was now completely at ease.

Dinner ended in laughter and satisfaction all around.

Throughout the meal, Diana couldn’t stop praising Aurora.

Aurora responded warmly, “Mom, you’re the beautiful one. I still need to learn your secrets for keeping so well.”

“That’s easy. Next time, we’ll book a day at the spa together.”

Diana adored Aurora’s straightforward and gracious nature.

Aurora smiled. “Of course, Mom. As long as I have time, I’ll go with you.”
