“No need, Mom.” Lucas stepped forward, slipping an arm around Aurora’s shoulders. “Did you forget something? She’ll stay in the same room with me.”

Diana slapped her forehead with a laugh. “Look at my memory, how could I forget something so important?”

Edward walked over, chuckling. “I think you simply see Aurora as your own daughter, that’s why you were ready to separate her from our son.”

“Looking at it this way, our boy really did steal a treasure.”

The whole room burst into laughter at his words.

Aurora instinctively glanced at Lucas, and sure enough, saw his face darken.

“Dad, am I even your son?” Lucas demanded.

Lucas drew a sharp breath, tightened his hold on Aurora’s shoulder, and headed for the stairs. “Come on, Aurora, let’s get back to our room. I’ve had enough of these two who clearly don’t care about me.”

“Wait, let me say something to Mom first.”

Aurora was pulled along by Lucas, her body moving without any control of her own.

He marched straight toward the room, muttering under his breath, “Don’t bother. She’s got Dad to look after her. With the way those two dote on each other, it’s like we don’t even need to exist.”

Her soft goodnight to Diana was lost in the air, carried away before it reached its mark.

Lucas walked so fast that Aurora had no chance to linger.

Only when the door slammed shut with a sharp bang did Diana finally let out a quiet laugh.

Turning to Edward, she said, “This is the first time I’ve ever seen our son so full of life.”

“True enough. Before this, he always carried himself like an old man. That’s why I thought it was better for him to run the company—I had no energy for it myself, not when all my thoughts were on you.”

Edward always knew how to play along; whatever Diana said, he immediately echoed, never letting her words fall flat.

At that, Diana shot him a look.

“Stop joking around. It’s late. Let’s get ready for bed.”

“Alright, whatever my wife says goes.”

In good spirits, Diana returned to their room to wash up, fully satisfied with the daughter-in-law her son had brought home.

Meanwhile, in their own room, as soon as the door closed, Aurora turned to Lucas and demanded, “Why are you picking a fight with Mom?”
