When she saw what was inside the drawer, her face flushed scarlet. In the next second, she slammed it shut with a loud bang. Aurora turned, glaring at Lucas in outrage. "Youโyouโyouโฆ how could you?" "What? What did I do?" Lucas looked genuinely puzzled, unable to make sense of her reaction. What had she seen to make her look like that? Could there really be something shameful hidden inside the drawer?
"Youโre shameless. You actually stocked up on so many of those things in there." At that, Lucas was even more bewildered. "I didnโt do anything. I came back with you, didnโt I?"
Aurora froze, a realization flashing through her mind. She had figured it outโthe things in that drawer must have been prepared by his parents. Flustered, she stammered, "Itโs nothing, nothing at all. I must have been mistaken. Letโs just go to sleep, itโs already late."
Her attempt to cover it up only made Lucas narrow his eyes, curiosity sparking. The more she tried to stop him, the more certain he became there was something inside worth seeing. Aurora forced a smile. "Really, itโs nothing. Donโt let your imagination run wild." She was so embarrassed she could hardly meet his eyes, wishing the night would just end quickly. She pressed down hard on the drawer, determined not to let Lucas get close enough to look inside. Seeing that, Lucas let it go at last. "Alright then. Letโs just get some rest and stop overthinking." Hearing his words, Aurora let out a breath of relief. Just as she was about to relax, Lucas moved with lightning speed and yanked the drawer open, revealing everything inside. Aurora fell silent. It took her a long moment to find her voice. "Youโre a grown man, and you still have to trick me? Isnโt that childish?" Her words came out stammered, because she could clearly see how Lucasโ expression shifted the moment he took in what was inside. The way he looked now honestly frightened her a little.
All she had wanted was a quiet night, nothing out of the ordinary. She hadnโt expected to accidentally tug the drawer open. Lucasโ throat bobbed as he swallowed, his gaze on Aurora darkened with a flicker of desire. Even so, he still tried to explain. "Aurora, you have to believe meโthese things werenโt prepared by me." "I know, I really do." Aurora almost wanted to clamp a hand over his mouth. "Didnโt you just say it yourself? We came back at the same time. You couldnโt possibly have had a chance to prepare these things. And besides, we only decided at the last minute to stay here, so I know perfectly well it wasnโt you." By the end, her voice grew smaller and smaller. Lucas, however, only looked more amused. "Looks like the old couple have their tricks. But to be fair, itโs actually quite thoughtful of them." At that, Aurora slapped her hand over his mouth. "Donโt say another word!" Her embarrassment made her want to curl up into the ground. The moment she had seen what was in that drawer, her face had turned crimson, and now Lucas kept bringing it up again and again. She couldnโt even bear to look in that direction anymore.
