Listen to this chapter:

"What are you up to this time?" Auroraโ€™s face tightened with wariness.

She didnโ€™t trust her mother anymore, not after everything that had happened.

"Oh, come on, what could I possibly be up to?" Grace said with an innocent expression that gave nothing away. "I just thought itโ€™d be nice for you and my son-in-law to come home for a meal, thatโ€™s all. Nothing else.โ€

She looked so calm and harmless that, for a moment, it really did seem like she was just asking them over for dinner.

Aurora studied her closely for a while, then finally sighed and nodded. โ€œAlright. Iโ€™ll bring him back when we have time."

โ€œThatโ€™s good. Just let me know in advance. Iโ€™ll cook all your favorite dishes.โ€

Auroraโ€™s expression flickered slightly. Did her mother even remember what she liked to eat?

โ€œFine. If thatโ€™s all, Iโ€™ll get going.โ€

She didnโ€™t want to drag the conversation out any longer.

On her way back, Aurora kept thinkingโ€”had her mother really changed? Or was this sudden warmth only because of Lucasโ€™ status and influence? After all, in Ravenshore, no one would pass up the chance to be associated with the Carter family.

A trace of cold determination glimmered in her eyes. Whatever Graceโ€™s motives were, she wouldnโ€™t let anyone use Lucas or hurt him. He was her man. And since sheโ€™d chosen to build a life with him, she wouldnโ€™t back down halfway.

As for Tessa, Aurora would deal with her in due time. There was no rush. She had all the time in the world, and when she eventually returned to the Walton family, sheโ€™d settle that score properly. She had always felt a pair of eyes watching her from the shadows. Now that she knew it was Tessa, she felt oddly calm.

After all, Tessa couldnโ€™t run forever. So why waste energy worrying? It was better to focus on herself.

That night, after returning home, Aurora discussed a few project details with the director. They agreed to start filming the following Wednesday. Aurora had no objections.

โ€œSure, Iโ€™ll go along with your schedule. Iโ€™ve already arranged everything at the studio, so you donโ€™t have to worry.โ€

It was the first time the director had worked with such an easygoing boss, and he couldnโ€™t help feeling pleased. "Donโ€™t worry, Miss Walton. With you on board, Iโ€™m confident this show will be a big success."

โ€œYouโ€™re too kind, Mr. Smith. Youโ€™re the one leading the team. Iโ€™m just here to do my part.โ€

The director laughed. โ€œI didnโ€™t expect it. Youโ€™re not only beautiful and capable, but youโ€™ve got a great sense of humor too.โ€

Aurora smiled lightly. โ€œItโ€™s getting late. You should get some rest, Mr. Smith.โ€

โ€œYou too.โ€

After a few more polite words, they ended the call just as Lucas pushed the door open. He usually never entered while she was on the phone.

โ€œWork call?โ€ he asked casually.

โ€œYes,โ€ Aurora replied. โ€œWeโ€™re starting filming next Wednesday.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s coming up fast.โ€

Aurora nodded, a faint sigh escaping her lips. It struck her that it had been almost half a year since she left the Walton Corporation. No wonder seeing her mother again earlier that day had felt so surreal.

โ€œBy the way, when I met with my mom, she said sheโ€™d like us to come home for dinner sometime when weโ€™re free."
