Chapter 147
Leonard noticed something off about Aurora and followed her line of sight. A delicate, lively young woman fluttered like a butterfly into the arms of a tall man.
โLukey, I knew youโd come!โ she exclaimed, dashing toward Lucas with uncontainable joy in her eyes.
Amidst the crowd, the two embraced as if no one else existed around them.
It was like a scene straight out of a filmโbeautiful, moving, and unreal.
Auroraโs hands slowly clenched at her sides, her red lips pressing into a thin line.
The pair embracing before her were her husband and a woman she didnโt even know.
Watching them, she couldnโt quite describe what she was feeling.
So that was Lucasโ true love?
She really lived up to her expectation.
She was pure, radiant, and looked like a princess untouched by the world.
The tenderness in Lucasโ gaze was something Aurora rarely saw.
He usually gave off a distant, cold auraโmost who met him would describe him as aloof.
But with the girl in his arms, Aurora could clearly see a softness in his expression, a sincerity that went deeper than usual.
She drew in a deep breath.
She reminded herself over and over again that this was just a contractual marriage.
She always knew a day like this would come. She shouldโve been prepared.
Yet something strange still stirred inside her chest.
A hollow emptiness she hadnโt expected.
โMiss Walton, are you alright?โ Leonardโs concerned voice sounded beside her.
Thinking she was just touched by the romantic reunion, he added, โItโs the kind of love you see in movies.
โMeeting at the airport, hugging like no one else exists. And they look great together too.โ
The odd feeling in Auroraโs chest grew heavier.
She casually responded, โYouโre right, Mr. Knight.โ
โAlright then, letโs go. Itโs getting late. Let me take you to lunch. You must be tired after the trip.โ
Aurora and Leonard walked out one after the other.
In the terminal, Lucas was still holding Wendy Shaws in his arms when he suddenly glanced in Auroraโs direction, sensing something.
He caught sight of her retreating figure and, almost instinctively, took a step forward, wanting to go after her.
But the woman in his arms wasnโt having it.
Wendy pouted slightly and said with a hint of displeasure, โLukey, where are you going? Iโve been on a long flight and Iโm starving. I havenโt eaten a thing yet.
โLukey, take me to try some local food, will you? Iโve been craving it the whole time I was abroad.โ
Lucas responded casually, โSure. Iโve already made arrangements.โ
โI knew it! Youโre the best!โ Wendy said excitedly.
Lucas pressed his lips into a thin line and said nothing more.
He was certain he hadnโt seen it wrongโit had been Auroraโs silhouette.
But did she see him with Wendy?
For some reason, a wave of unease crept into his chest.
He slowly pulled his arm from around Wendy and sent Aurora a message:
โRora, were you just at the airport? I think I saw you. Where did you go?โ
Even after sending the message, the anxious feeling in his chest didnโt fade.
He gripped his phone tightly in his right hand, waiting for a reply.
Wendy noticed he was distracted.
Tilting her head, she asked, โLukey, didnโt you say youโd take me to eat? Where are we going? Iโm so tiredโฆ I donโt want to stay at the airport any longer.โ
โYeah, letโs go now,โ he answered simply, then picked up her suitcase with his left hand and led her toward the airport exit.
