His right hand kept checking his phone from time to time, hoping to see a reply from Aurora. Behind him, Wendy complained, โLukey, why are you walking so fast? I canโt keep up!โ
Lucas glanced at the unread message on his screen, irritation bubbling under the surface. But when he turned around to face Wendy, his expression remained calm and polite. โAlright, Iโll wait for you.โ
Even after they got into the car, Aurora still hadnโt replied. Sitting in the driverโs seat, Lucas felt uneasy. Had Aurora seen what happened earlier and misunderstood?
On Auroraโs side, she was having lunch with Leonard, but her mind was clearly elsewhere. Her thoughts were still spinning with the image of Lucas and his so-called true love. When lunchtime came, the two only shared a simple meal.
Then Leonard seemed to remember something and casually asked, โMiss Walton, do you know that person at the airport earlier?โ
With a loud clatter, Auroraโs spoon fell into her bowl. Her eyes widened slightly, and she hastily reached for a napkin, only for Leonard to kindly hand her one.
โWhy do you ask that all of a sudden?โ Taking the napkin from him, she muttered a quick โThanksโ and couldnโt help but question him.
Leonard let out a soft chuckle. โMiss Walton, youโve been distracted this whole time. Iโm not clueless. I can tell somethingโs on your mind.โ
Aurora thought back on the entire drive and lunch. It was trueโshe hadnโt been herself. She looked a little embarrassed. โSorry about that. I mustโve made a fool of myself.โ
Leonard just smiled. โDonโt overthink it. Some things are within our control. And by the way, the soup here is excellent. Great choice! Youโve got good taste in restaurants. Iโll definitely bring my sister next time.โ
That caught Auroraโs interest. โYou have a sister?โ
โYes, her name is Nora Knight.โ When Leonard mentioned the word sister, there was a flicker of emotion in his eyes that Aurora couldnโt quite readโsomething gentle, maybe even tinged with sadness. But she didnโt press. Everyone had their secrets, things they chose not to share. There was no need to dig deeper.
Over the course of the meal, the two of them got to know each other better. Aurora learned that Leonard was actually her motherโs first step in expanding into the international architecture market. He had studied architectural design abroad, and Grace hoped to integrate his design philosophy into Walton Corporationโs development plans. Interestingly, Auroraโs views often aligned with Leonardโs, and they hit it off quickly. By the end of lunch, Leonard was clearly impressed with her.
โI didnโt expect you to share so many of my perspectives on modern design,โ he said with a bright smile. โTalking to you has been a real pleasure, Miss Walton.โ
โLikewise,โ Aurora returned a smile. โI think we work well together. Iโm looking forward to collaborating with you.โ
โAnd when thereโs a chance, bring your sister along. I know a few great restaurants. We can try them out together.โ
Leonardโs smile widened. โAbsolutely. Donโt worry, Iโll pass your invitation along to my sister.โ
The meeting ended on a good note. After dropping Leonard off, Aurora returned home, but her mind couldnโt help drifting back to what had happened earlier in the day. She took a deep breath and reminded herselfโit was just a flash marriage. She had no right to ask for more. She made this choice herself. Even if she regretted it now, it was too late. Living separate lives wasnโt such a bad thing.
