Chapter 1507
Lucas let out a cold laugh. โFor the sake of our years of partnership, Iโll let this slide. But if it happens again, I wonโt forgive her. Iโm telling you now, and Iโll be calling her later to make it clear.โ
Edwinโs expression darkened slightly. He tried to sound tactful. โLucas, youโve worked together for years. Donโt you think this might be a bit harsh?โ
โWhatโs harsh about it? Did she consider how Aurora or I would feel before she acted?โ
Lucasโ voice was sharp and firm. โUncle, donโt forget, Aurora is my wife. Should I not defend her in public and instead defend a business partner?โ
Hearing that, Edwin didnโt know what to say.
So, in Lucasโ mind, Yvonne was nothing more than a partner.
Did she really mean nothing else to him?
From Yvonneโs perspective, that truth would be painful. She had stayed by his side for years, remained single, and rejected countless suitors, all for him.
Yet now, in Lucasโ eyes, she was just a regular collaborator.
Edwin couldnโt tell whether he felt relieved or disappointed.
Because from Lucasโ words, it was obvious Yvonne had no chance at all.
Still, Edwin had done everything he could. Even if Yvonne got angry later, sheโd have no reason to blame him.
On the contrary, this might even work in his favorโhis own chances could quietly increase.
That thought brought a faint, unreadable glint to his eyes.
โWhen you put it that way, it does make sense,โ Edwin finally said, for once not arguing with him.
Edwin knew Lucas had always been someone with his own mind. Even if he disagreed with him, there was no stopping Lucas from saying what he wanted to say.
He had always been rebellious, never one to be controlled.
Even when others disapproved, he followed his own instincts and didnโt care about anyoneโs opinions.
At times, Edwin actually envied that part of him. Still, he himself lived quite freely, too.
Even when people called him a slacker, he never cared about what they said.
Lucas said coldly, โSince you know Iโm right, then make sure Yvonne keeps her mouth shut.
โI called you ahead of time so youโd understand what I mean. I donโt want things between us to turn ugly just yet.โ
Edwin hadnโt expected there to be this extra layer of meaning behind Lucasโ call. Though he wanted to say a few words on Yvonneโs behalf, he didnโt dare argue back.
โI understand. Iโll talk to her.โ
โYou must tell her,โ Lucas said, his tone turning icy. โTell her to stop talking nonsense online. Saying things like that only embarrasses the Carter family. Does she really think the Songs can compete with us?โ
Edwin fell silent.
He understood perfectly well what Lucas meant.
The Song family might be considered one of the prominent families, but compared to the Carters, they were worlds apart, completely out of their league.
Most of the time, the Songs relied on the Cartersโ influence to stay relevant.
So even if Lucas had a problem with Yvonne, she would have no choice but to endure it and bow to his authority.
