Lucas let out a cold laugh. “For the sake of our years of partnership, I’ll let this slide. But if it happens again, I won’t forgive her. I’m telling you now, and I’ll be calling her later to make it clear.”

Edwin’s expression darkened slightly. He tried to sound tactful. “Lucas, you’ve worked together for years. Don’t you think this might be a bit harsh?”

“What’s harsh about it? Did she consider how Aurora or I would feel before she acted?”

Lucas’ voice was sharp and firm. “Uncle, don’t forget, Aurora is my wife. Should I not defend her in public and instead defend a business partner?”

Hearing that, Edwin didn’t know what to say.

So, in Lucas’ mind, Yvonne was nothing more than a partner.

Did she really mean nothing else to him?

From Yvonne’s perspective, that truth would be painful. She had stayed by his side for years, remained single, and rejected countless suitors, all for him.

Yet now, in Lucas’ eyes, she was just a regular collaborator.

Edwin couldn’t tell whether he felt relieved or disappointed.

“When you put it that way, it does make sense,” Edwin finally said, for once not arguing with him.

Edwin knew Lucas had always been someone with his own mind. Even if he disagreed with him, there was no stopping Lucas from saying what he wanted to say.

He had always been rebellious, never one to be controlled.

Even when others disapproved, he followed his own instincts and didn’t care about anyone’s opinions.

At times, Edwin actually envied that part of him. Still, he himself lived quite freely, too.

Even when people called him a slacker, he never cared about what they said.

Lucas said coldly, “Since you know I’m right, then make sure Yvonne keeps her mouth shut.

“I called you ahead of time so you’d understand what I mean. I don’t want things between us to turn ugly just yet.”

Edwin hadn’t expected there to be this extra layer of meaning behind Lucas’ call. Though he wanted to say a few words on Yvonne’s behalf, he didn’t dare argue back.

“I understand. I’ll talk to her.”

“You must tell her,” Lucas said, his tone turning icy. “Tell her to stop talking nonsense online. Saying things like that only embarrasses the Carter family. Does she really think the Songs can compete with us?”

Edwin fell silent.

He understood perfectly well what Lucas meant.

The Song family might be considered one of the prominent families, but compared to the Carters, they were worlds apart, completely out of their league.

Most of the time, the Songs relied on the Carters’ influence to stay relevant.

So even if Lucas had a problem with Yvonne, she would have no choice but to endure it and bow to his authority.
