Chapter 195

Aurora took a deep breath. It was clear now that Joseph was starting to interfere with her work. She couldn’t let this continue. Next time, she had to hit harder. Sending him to prison last time clearly hadn’t taught him enough of a lesson. He never seemed to learn. Fiddling with the bracelet on her wrist, Aurora narrowed her eyes and began to plan her next move.

“Joseph Hunt?”

Wendy was momentarily confused when she heard the name. It didn’t ring any bells. Her assistant explained, “Yes, he’s the heir to Hunt Enterprises. He insisted on meeting with you in person. He said he has something you’d definitely be interested in.”

That caught Wendy’s attention. She stood up and looked at her assistant. “Did he really say that?”

“Yes. He said it with full confidence. He’s in the reception room right now, waiting for you.”

Wendy’s lips curved into a slight smirk. “Well, I’d like to see what this man is all about, daring to claim he has something I’d want.”

With that, she walked toward the reception room. Joseph had certainly piqued her interest. When she arrived, she sat down across from him, her posture relaxed as she asked, “You said you have something that might interest me, didn’t you?”

Joseph took one look at Wendy—pure on the outside, with ambition in her eyes—and immediately thought she’d make a great ally.

“Of course. I’ve long heard about the rivalry between you and Walton Corporation.”

Wendy’s eyes glinted, but she didn’t respond directly. “That’s just hearsay. Without proof, I won’t confirm anything.”

Joseph gave a faint smirk and laid out the evidence of his relationship with Aurora. “I know she’s your target. And, as it happens, she’s mine too. Since we share the same target, then the enemy of my enemy is a friend. Why not work together?”

Wendy’s eyes lit up as she looked at the photos of the two of them. But a moment later, something didn’t sit right. If they had once been a couple, why was he now helping her? Was this some kind of trap waiting for her to fall into?

Joseph could see the suspicion in her eyes but didn’t take it to heart. “Miss Shaws, rest assured, I came with nothing but sincerity. If you’re willing to trust me, we can team up and bring down our common enemy.” He leaned back slightly. “It’s a good deal. If it works, we’ll be excellent partners moving forward. And this isn’t just a one-off thing—it’s a long-term, sustainable alliance. The logic behind ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ is something I’m sure you understand well.”

Wendy looked at the sly smile on his face. It all felt a bit unreliable, but as Lucas’ face appeared in her mind, she decided it was worth it. Even if the man in front of her was a pit of fire, she was willing to jump in just to see. If she didn’t try, how would she know how it might end? As long as it could bring Aurora down, she was willing to try anything.

“Alright. I’ll take you as a partner. Just don’t let me down.”

She reached out her hand toward Joseph. He gave a faint smile and shook it, as if everything had gone exactly as planned.
