โYouโฆhow could you?โ
Aurora let out a soft laugh. โAlright, work is still more important. Donโt overthink it.โ
Lucy thought about it for a moment and realized it made sense.
While they were speaking, someone knocked on the office door.
Both Aurora and Lucy turned toward the sound.
The person at the door looked at Aurora and said, โMiss Aurora, the Chairwoman wants to see you.โ
Auroraโs gaze darkened slightly. โAlright, I understand. Iโll head over now.โ
Lucy guessed, โIs it about what happened this morning?โ
Aurora gave a quiet โMm.โ
โIt could be, but Iโm not sure yet. Better to go and find out."
โThen you go ahead, Aurora. Iโll get back to work too.โ
After they went their separate ways, Aurora headed straight to the chairwomanโs office.
She knocked on the door, and it took a while before a voice responded from inside.
When Aurora walked in, Grace was hunched over her desk, writing something, fully focused on her work.
It was as if she hadnโt even seen Aurora come in, continuing with her task as though no one else was in the room.
Aurora waited for a while before finally speaking up.
โMadam Grace, is there something you needed from me?โ
Grace still didnโt respond and kept working, acting as if Aurora wasnโt there at all.
Aurora understood then โ Grace was deliberately giving her the cold shoulder.
So, she decided to sit patiently on the couch and started going through her own tasks.
Eventually, Grace sighed.
Her daughterโs temperament was just like hers.
She finally broke the silence. โDo you know why I asked you to come here today?โ
โMadam Grace, you didnโt tell me, so I wouldnโt dare make assumptions,โ Aurora answered respectfully.
Grace stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the bustling traffic below.
โThe reason Walton Corporation has stayed at the top for so many years in this circle is because of the reputation weโve maintained.โ
The moment she said that, Aurora knew exactly where this was going.
โBut what happened between you and your ex this morningโit was an absolute disgrace.โ
The last part came with a noticeably harsher tone.
Aurora lowered her gaze, unsure of how to respond.
โDonโt worry. Iโll handle it.โ
Chapter 194
After thinking it over, that was the only response she could give.
Grace turned to look at her daughter.
Her biggest issue was always that stubborn pride. โIt must be handled properly. The companyโs image isnโt something you or I can afford to tarnish.
"Remember, even though your last name is Walton and the company carries that name, it doesnโt belong to just the two of us.โ
A chill crept through Auroraโs chest. โUnderstood.โ
Even though she was the one humiliated, her mother hadnโt shown a shred of concern.
All she cared about was the companyโs reputation.
Aurora clenched her fingers, forcing herself to stay calm.
She couldnโt afford to let her emotions get the better of her.
After all, her mother wasnโt wrongโthe company wasnโt theirs alone to decide for.
โThatโs all I have to say. Youโll need to continue following up with Leonardโs side.โ
With that, Grace returned to her seat and went back to work.
Aurora stood there in a daze for a long moment before finally walking out and closing the office door behind her.
As the door shut, Grace lifted her head, her eyes clouded with a flicker of something unreadable.
