Chapter 218

โ€œYou didnโ€™t know about this?โ€ David looked puzzled. โ€œBut as far as I know, werenโ€™t you the one who said all that?โ€

Auroraโ€™s suspicion deepened. โ€œWhat did I say? Mr. Warren, Iโ€™m honestly a little lost right now.โ€ She studied Davidโ€™s serious expression, a sinking feeling stirring in her chest. From the look on his face, he wasnโ€™t making things up. And really, why would he lie? This was a business partnership between them.

Even David started to realize something wasnโ€™t right. Watching Auroraโ€™s confused reaction, he began to believe that she truly had nothing to do with it. After all, sabotaging the deal wouldnโ€™t benefit either side.

Seeing that heโ€™d caught on, Aurora finally replied seriously, โ€œMr. Warren, I think we should lay all the facts on the table and talk this through.โ€

โ€œAlright, then I wonโ€™t beat around the bush,โ€ David said with a graver tone. โ€œOriginally, after the news online, our company wasnโ€™t planning to continue working with Walton Corporation. But I trust your character, Miss Walton, so I decided to wait for your explanation.โ€

Aurora nodded. โ€œI understand. Thank you for your trust, Mr. Warren.โ€

โ€œButโ€ฆโ€ Davidโ€™s face darkened as he recalled what happened that night. โ€œThat night, someone sent something over to me. They said it was handwritten by you, but they didnโ€™t open it. They told me I had to read it myself. I didnโ€™t think much of it and opened it. Turned out, it was a termination letter, along with some pretty nasty words about our company.โ€

Aurora shot up in her seat. โ€œMr. Warren, Iโ€™ve never even heard about this!โ€

David nodded. โ€œHonestly, when I first read it, I didnโ€™t want to believe it either. But when I saw your signature at the bottom, thatโ€™s when I was sure it came from you.โ€

Auroraโ€™s face twisted, like sheโ€™d swallowed a fly. โ€œMr. Warren, do you still have that letter?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s gone. After I read it, I was furious and told my assistant to throw it out. Thatโ€™s when I decided to call off all cooperation.โ€

Aurora felt a flicker of regret that the lead had been lost, but at least the misunderstanding was now cleared up. Things wouldnโ€™t spiral like before. Stillโ€ฆ There was something that didnโ€™t sit right with her.

โ€œMr. Warren, did someone reach out to you before you agreed to meet me this time?โ€ Aurora wasnโ€™t even sure why she asked. It was just a hunchโ€”something felt off. After all, David had always carried himself with a sense of pride, yet today heโ€™d been easygoing the entire time, like a completely different person. Whoever had spoken to him probably had enough influence to shake things up behind the scenes. Otherwise, David wouldnโ€™t be acting like this.

David gave a slightly awkward cough, then steadied himself and looked at Aurora calmly. โ€œMiss Walton, youโ€™re overthinking. I agreed to meet with you because I still trust your company. Now that the misunderstandingโ€™s cleared up, letโ€™s start fresh and put this behind us.โ€ As he spoke, he extended his hand toward her with a smile.
