“You didn’t know about this?” David looked puzzled. “But as far as I know, weren’t you the one who said all that?”

Aurora’s suspicion deepened. “What did I say? Mr. Warren, I’m honestly a little lost right now.” She studied David’s serious expression, a sinking feeling stirring in her chest. From the look on his face, he wasn’t making things up. And really, why would he lie? This was a business partnership between them.

Even David started to realize something wasn’t right. Watching Aurora’s confused reaction, he began to believe that she truly had nothing to do with it. After all, sabotaging the deal wouldn’t benefit either side.

Seeing that he’d caught on, Aurora finally replied seriously, “Mr. Warren, I think we should lay all the facts on the table and talk this through.”

“Alright, then I won’t beat around the bush,” David said with a graver tone. “Originally, after the news online, our company wasn’t planning to continue working with Walton Corporation. But I trust your character, Miss Walton, so I decided to wait for your explanation.”

Aurora nodded. “I understand. Thank you for your trust, Mr. Warren.”

“But…” David’s face darkened as he recalled what happened that night. “That night, someone sent something over to me. They said it was handwritten by you, but they didn’t open it. They told me I had to read it myself. I didn’t think much of it and opened it. Turned out, it was a termination letter, along with some pretty nasty words about our company.”

Aurora shot up in her seat. “Mr. Warren, I’ve never even heard about this!”

David nodded. “Honestly, when I first read it, I didn’t want to believe it either. But when I saw your signature at the bottom, that’s when I was sure it came from you.”

Aurora’s face twisted, like she’d swallowed a fly. “Mr. Warren, do you still have that letter?”

“It’s gone. After I read it, I was furious and told my assistant to throw it out. That’s when I decided to call off all cooperation.”

Aurora felt a flicker of regret that the lead had been lost, but at least the misunderstanding was now cleared up. Things wouldn’t spiral like before. Still… There was something that didn’t sit right with her.

“Mr. Warren, did someone reach out to you before you agreed to meet me this time?” Aurora wasn’t even sure why she asked. It was just a hunch—something felt off. After all, David had always carried himself with a sense of pride, yet today he’d been easygoing the entire time, like a completely different person. Whoever had spoken to him probably had enough influence to shake things up behind the scenes. Otherwise, David wouldn’t be acting like this.

David gave a slightly awkward cough, then steadied himself and looked at Aurora calmly. “Miss Walton, you’re overthinking. I agreed to meet with you because I still trust your company. Now that the misunderstanding’s cleared up, let’s start fresh and put this behind us.” As he spoke, he extended his hand toward her with a smile.
