Listen to this chapter:

Aurora arched a brow, then reached out and shook his hand. It was brief, just a touch, but enough to signify that the partnership was back on track. A faint smile spread across her refined features.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll have a new contract sent over to your company soon, and weโ€™ll continue maintaining a good working relationship.โ€

โ€œOf course, I understand completely, Miss Walton.โ€ David nodded earnestly. โ€œThis time, our partnership will be stronger than ever.โ€

Inwardly, he scoffed. He definitely needed to build a stronger relationship with her now that he knew the Walton Corporation had Vanguard behind it. He wasnโ€™t foolish.

In Ravenshore, he knew exactly whose word carried weight.

Aurora picked up on something strange in his tone, but didnโ€™t dwell on it. Maybe it was just the relief from clearing up the misunderstanding that made him more trusting? She couldnโ€™t think of another explanation. Still, she was determined to find out who had sent that letter. Someone was clearly setting her up.

โ€œAlright, Mr. Warren, Iโ€™ll head back now. Once the contract is ready, Iโ€™ll have someone send it over.โ€

David smiled. โ€œYouโ€™ve always been efficient. Take your time.โ€

โ€œOh, and by the way, feel free to proceed with the supply on your side. Iโ€™ll resume the supply later this afternoon.โ€

Aurora blinked. That fast?

โ€œAlright. Thank you, Mr. Warren.โ€

As she walked out, there was still a dazed feeling lingering in her chest. Was it really resolved just like that? After all the days of stress, now that it was finally over, she could barely process it. For a moment, it all felt unreal.

Watching her leave, David let out a long breath. Thank God, it was finally over. He was only worried about accidentally slipping up in front of Aurora and exposing Vanguardโ€“that would be a disaster.

Later, Desmond called David. โ€œSo? Did Mrs.โ€”I mean, Miss Walton get suspicious? You didnโ€™t let anything slip, did you?โ€

Heโ€™d nearly said Mrs. Carter, but caught himself just in time. A glance at Lucas beside him had his breath catch in his throat.

The boss was still as terrifying as ever. Just a single glance, and Desmond almost collapsed. Thankfully, David hadnโ€™t caught the slip.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, not a chance. Itโ€™s all taken care of. Iโ€™ll resume supplying materials this afternoon.โ€ Desmond finally relaxed. โ€œGood. From here on, just follow the normal procedures.โ€

David wiped the sweat off his brow. It wasnโ€™t until the call ended that he finally exhaled in relief. He hadnโ€™t expected someone from Vanguard to call him afterward. That could only mean one thingโ€“Aurora wasnโ€™t just some regular general manager of Walton Corporation. Could she be connected to whoever held real power behind Vanguard? The thought alone sent a chill down Davidโ€™s spine. What if Aurora had gone straight to them to complain about the supply cutoff? If that had happened, would he even have a place left in Ravenshore?

At this point, David could only force himself to think positively. That afternoon, he even went the extra mile by sending a few additional shipments over at the same price. When the workers received the delivery, they immediately noticed the difference. The quantity was clearly more than before, so they reported it to the site supervisor.
