Aurora arched a brow, then reached out and shook his hand. It was brief, just a touch, but enough to signify that the partnership was back on track. A faint smile spread across her refined features.
โDonโt worry. Iโll have a new contract sent over to your company soon, and weโll continue maintaining a good working relationship.โ
โOf course, I understand completely, Miss Walton.โ David nodded earnestly. โThis time, our partnership will be stronger than ever.โ
Inwardly, he scoffed. He definitely needed to build a stronger relationship with her now that he knew the Walton Corporation had Vanguard behind it. He wasnโt foolish.
In Ravenshore, he knew exactly whose word carried weight.
Aurora picked up on something strange in his tone, but didnโt dwell on it. Maybe it was just the relief from clearing up the misunderstanding that made him more trusting? She couldnโt think of another explanation. Still, she was determined to find out who had sent that letter. Someone was clearly setting her up.
โAlright, Mr. Warren, Iโll head back now. Once the contract is ready, Iโll have someone send it over.โ
David smiled. โYouโve always been efficient. Take your time.โ
โOh, and by the way, feel free to proceed with the supply on your side. Iโll resume the supply later this afternoon.โ
Aurora blinked. That fast?
โAlright. Thank you, Mr. Warren.โ
As she walked out, there was still a dazed feeling lingering in her chest. Was it really resolved just like that? After all the days of stress, now that it was finally over, she could barely process it. For a moment, it all felt unreal.
Watching her leave, David let out a long breath. Thank God, it was finally over. He was only worried about accidentally slipping up in front of Aurora and exposing Vanguardโthat would be a disaster.
Later, Desmond called David. โSo? Did Mrs.โI mean, Miss Walton get suspicious? You didnโt let anything slip, did you?โ
Heโd nearly said Mrs. Carter, but caught himself just in time. A glance at Lucas beside him had his breath catch in his throat.
The boss was still as terrifying as ever. Just a single glance, and Desmond almost collapsed. Thankfully, David hadnโt caught the slip.
โDonโt worry, not a chance. Itโs all taken care of. Iโll resume supplying materials this afternoon.โ Desmond finally relaxed. โGood. From here on, just follow the normal procedures.โ
David wiped the sweat off his brow. It wasnโt until the call ended that he finally exhaled in relief. He hadnโt expected someone from Vanguard to call him afterward. That could only mean one thingโAurora wasnโt just some regular general manager of Walton Corporation. Could she be connected to whoever held real power behind Vanguard? The thought alone sent a chill down Davidโs spine. What if Aurora had gone straight to them to complain about the supply cutoff? If that had happened, would he even have a place left in Ravenshore?
At this point, David could only force himself to think positively. That afternoon, he even went the extra mile by sending a few additional shipments over at the same price. When the workers received the delivery, they immediately noticed the difference. The quantity was clearly more than before, so they reported it to the site supervisor.
