Chapter 251

The fact that she even asked that question made it obviousโ€”she was just waiting for something to go wrong, eager to swoop in and enjoy the fallout. With that attitude, there was no need to play nice anymore. People like her only got bolder the more you tolerated them, mistaking patience for fear. It was better to confront her head-on, let her know she wasnโ€™t someone to be trifled with.

As Aurora stared at the red light countdown in front of her, Lucas โ€™ handsome face surfaced in her mind. Her grip on the steering wheel gradually tightened. So, did this man realize that Wendy was interested in him? And even knowing that, he still insisted on letting her stay in the house? Aurora took a deep breath. Sometimes, she really didnโ€™t understand what went on in Lucasโ€™ head. But now, it was becoming clearerโ€”he was just hopelessly muddled.

The two of them went about their own routines, coming and going separately. Occasionally, they would cross paths at home, but neither would speak to the other. Even when they ran into each other, Aurora would silently step aside, clearly avoiding him. Every now and then, she would spend a couple of nights at the Walton home.

Grace had noticed something was off. It wasnโ€™t like Aurora to suddenly come back homeโ€”something must have happened between her and her husband. Tessa suspected the same. So, during dinner, she couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œSis, did you and Lucas have a fight?โ€

Auroraโ€™s hand holding the fork paused. Even Grace looked toward her upon hearing that question. Though she didnโ€™t approve of Tessa asking so bluntly, she couldnโ€™t deny she was curious too. Ever since Aurora secured those two seemingly impossible projects, Graceโ€™s attitude toward her had subtly shifted. Deep down, she felt that her daughter was no longer the same person she used to be.

Aurora paused for a moment, then quickly responded, โ€œSister, have you forgotten how your husband treated you at that banquet? You were shouting so loudly, Iโ€™m pretty sure everyone at the event heard it.โ€

Tessaโ€™s expression darkened in an instant, her face cycling through emotions like storm clouds rolling in before a downpour. โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean? I was just being kind and showing concern. Was that wrong?โ€

โ€œThanks for the concern, but if youโ€™ve got time to worry about me, maybe you should focus on patching things up with your husband instead.โ€ Auroraโ€™s tone was calm and detached, her expression unchanged, but Tessa was fumingโ€”eyes wide, lips twitching. That wretched girl really knew how to hit where it hurt. She didnโ€™t even want to remember that banquet. It was, without a doubt, the most humiliating moment of her entire life. Sheโ€™d been doing her best to move on and avoid the topic, but Aurora just had to bring it up again and again. How was she supposed to tolerate that?

โ€œMom, did you hear that? I was just showing concern, how is that wrong?โ€ she turned to complain.

Grace sat straight-backed, and when Tessa tried to pull her into it, she replied flatly, โ€œYour sisterโ€™s not a child. She knows what sheโ€™s doing. But your situation with Julian has already become the talk of Ravenshoreโ€™s elite circle. What are you planning to do about that?โ€

Tessa was momentarily speechless, unsure of what to say. Of course, Grace had always been someone who prioritized benefits above all else. And her situation with Julian had indeed caused some damage to the company.
