Chapter 269
She was determined to find out exactly what Lucas was doing at Vanguard Group and why he had been staying there all this time.
Aurora walked into the break room and made herself a cup of coffee.
As luck would have it, just as she turned around, she spotted a man walking beside Lucas, speaking rapidly about something. Lucas remained expressionless the entire time, completely indifferent, letting the man beside him chatter on and on.
Seeing this, something suddenly clicked in Auroraโs mind. This wasnโt a business negotiation at all. Judging by Lucasโ demeanor, it was obvious people were coming to him with proposals, not the other way around. But then, why did the employees in this company treat him with such respect? Could it beโฆ?
Aurora pressed her lips together, a glimmer flashing across her eyes. No matter what, she was going to get to the bottom of this today. With that thought, she picked up her pace and followed after them.
This time was different from the last. The previous time she gave chase, Lucas had already vanished from sight. But this time, he was clearly visible. A man walked alongside him, speaking with visible deference. Aurora was beginning to suspect that Lucas might be someone high up at Vanguard Group. Otherwise, how else could she explain the way others treated him with such reverence?
Desmond was passionately delivering a work report when he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye. When he realized who it was, he gasped sharply. Dear God, why was she here again? He leaned in and whispered to Lucas, โSir, I think your wife is here.โ
Lucas immediately stopped walking, no longer heading toward his office. โIs that true?โ
Desmond shut his eyes briefly. โAbsolutely. Sheโs almost here.โ
Hearing that, Lucas turned around and saw Aurora approaching in her business attire, her face clearly clouded with anger. His heart skipped a beat. Had she already found out about his identity? How did she even get here without anyone notifying him?
Facing Auroraโs furious expression, Lucas suddenly felt unsure of what to do. He couldnโt tell how much she had uncovered โ whether she only suspected something or had already confirmed it and was now here to confront him.
โAurora. What a coincidence, running into you here at Vanguard again.โ
Aurora let out a cold laugh. โVery coincidental indeed. You always seem to appear whenever Iโm around. What excuse are you going to give me this time? Today isnโt the fifteenth.โ
Lucas cleared his throat twice. โCome on, I wasnโt making excuses before. I was being serious every time.โ
โAurora, if you say that, youโre breaking my heart.โ
But she saw right through him. โDonโt even try. Iโve figured it out. Just tell me whatโs really going on this time โ no more games.โ
Desmond, who had been standing nearby, could barely hold back a laugh. He hadnโt expected their no-nonsense CEO to be like this in front of his wife. The thought alone almost made him burst out laughing.
Lucas caught the sound and shot him a sharp side glance out of the corner of his eye, warning him to keep it together. They were still in front of Aurora โ what was he thinking?
