Chapter 315
Lucas stepped up beside Aurora, his gaze sweeping over the chattering crowd with growing irritation.
โIs all this noise about you?โ he asked casually, though his eyes never once strayed from the people surrounding them. He was committing every face to memory. These people had the nerve to gang up on his Rora when he wasnโt around. Theyโd pay for that.
At first, no one thought much of his presence. But the moment they met his eyes, a strange unease settled over them. There was something in his stare that made them all flinch, as if they were being silently called to account.
Aurora understood what he meant right away. She smiled lightly and said, โIโm not sure. Maybe theyโre just gossiping about something else.โ
Lucas didnโt reply. His silence spoke louder than words as his piercing gaze remained locked on every person there. He wasnโt letting a single one of them off the hook.
The woman in the red dress began to panic as the energy in the room shifted. Everyone had been on her side a moment agoโwhat happened? And anyway, wasnโt Aurora the one who tried to seduce her future brother-in-law? Wasnโt she the mistress in all this? Since when did she become untouchable?
The more she thought about it, the more bitter she felt. So, this was how the wealthy played the game? No matter how damning the accusations, all it took was a few words from someone powerful and everything disappeared. Her chest tightened with resentment. She couldnโt hold it in anymore.
โThis is how people like you operate, isnโt it?โ she shouted. Her lips curled into a sneer as she turned her glare on Aurora. She didnโt believe for a second that Aurora was innocent. Not without proof.
The moment those words left her mouth, the room erupted. Every pair of eyes turned to the woman in red. Even Lucas raised an eyebrow, mildly surprised that someone had the nerve to speak up like that. Ah, the tallest tree catches the wind.
He didnโt say a wordโjust stared at her quietly, expression unreadable.
Truthfully, once Lucas had shown up, Tessa had already given up hope of taking Aurora down. The man radiated capability and control, and even she found it hard to believe anyone could go against him and win.
But then this woman in red stepped up. Tessa hadnโt expected it. Whatever Rachel had whispered to her mustโve been convincing enough to make her believe in a baseless rumor. Tessaโs gaze slid to Rachel, her eyes glinting with satisfaction. What a sharp little blade that was, always full of surprises.
Megan, clearly annoyed, spoke up. โWhat are you even talking about? None of us know you; why would you come out of nowhere just to slander someone? Are you doing this on purpose?โ
The womanโs red lips curled into a sneer: โI just canโt stand the sight of people like you.โ
โSo what if she has a husband? That doesnโt mean sheโs not capable of cheating. You people are laughable.โ
That did it. The fire in Auroraโs chest flared to life.
She reached out and stopped Lucas as he moved to say something, giving him a subtle shake of her head. She could handle this.
With calm, deliberate steps, Aurora walked forward in her heels, her gaze locked on the woman like a laser. Her voice, cool and clear as a mountain stream, sliced cleanly through the tension in the room.
โSo, youโre absolutely certain that I had an affair?โ
