โBetter to believe it than not; just look at that face. What more proof do you need?โ
The womanโs fists clenched at her sides, her glare locked on Megan like a loaded weapon. Her anger wasnโt aimless. Her own husband had been lured away by someone with a seductive smile and sweet voice. Everything sheโd built was gone.
That wound still bled beneath her skin, and now, all that fury found a new target.
Aurora let out a cold laugh and lifted a hand, beckoning toward the corner. โCome here,โ she said, eyes fixed on Julian.
He didnโt know what she was planning and hesitated, his expression puzzled.
When others noticed her gesture, the crowd buzzed again.
โNo way, sheโs doing this in front of everyone?โ
โIs she seriously calling another man over while her husbandโs right there? Shameless.โ
People jumped to conclusions as easily as flipping a page. But Aurora didnโt react.
Her face remained composed, a faint smile playing on her lips as she watched Julian walk over. At first, he was reluctant, but the moment he saw her lift her phone ever so slightlyโpointing right at itโhe understood.
She was gesturing to the recording, the one he thought she mightโve deleted. He had no choice but to comply.
Tessaโs expression twisted with frustration. Whose side was he on, anyway? How could he be so obedient to Aurora in front of everyoneโat a banquet, no less? It was humiliating.
Her eyes stayed locked on him, watching his every move like a hawk. Even Lucas raised a brow, unsure what Aurora was getting at.
But in the very next moment, everyone had their answer.
Aurora turned to the crowd with a smile. โEveryone, this is the so-called future โbrother-in-lawโ you were talking about.โ
She then glanced to her other side. โAnd over here is my husband.โ
With one man standing on each side of her, the contrast was immediate and striking. It wasnโt hard to tell who truly matched her and stood beside her as an equal. And with that one comparison, the question of whether sheโd cheat seemed laughable.
Even the woman in the red dress began to waver. Maybe the information sheโd received hadnโt been as solid as she thought. But it was too late to back down now. Admitting she was wrong would be a slap in the face.
So, she straightened her shoulders and snapped, โAnd? What exactly are you trying to say?โ She was losing patience. โIf youโve got a point, then spit it out. Donโt waste everyoneโs time.โ
Aurora didnโt flinch. She simply smiled, then gently looped her arm through Lucasโ. โMy husband and I are doing just fine,โ she said calmly. โWe make a good match.โ
Lucasโ eyes lit upโher words landing like fireworks in his chest. She called him her husband. The word echoed in his mind, warm and lingering.
Aurora turned back to the woman, her voice light but firm. โI donโt know who sent you to stir all this up.โ
โI wasnโtโฆโ
Aurora held up a hand, her tone still polite. โLet me finish. Iโm just trying to have a civil conversation. Letโs be real; look at my husband. Heโs gorgeous. Do you really think I need to chase after anyone else?โ
The womanโs face stiffened, her pride taking a hit.
โOh, please. How do we know youโre not just the type who likes other peopleโs men?โ
Auroraโs calm demeanor only made it worse. She stood there, composed, unbotheredโexactly the kind of woman who didnโt need to fight to win.
And that was what the woman couldnโt stand most.
