Chapter 321

Lucas stared at Aurora in stunned silence. The wisps of hair clinging to her damp forehead, the pale glow of her bare skin, and that effortless allure she carried wrapped around him like a spell.

She was temptation incarnate. His eyes darkened with heat, and instinct took over before logic could catch up. It was going to be another sleepless night.

The next morning, when Aurora woke, Lucas was still asleep beside her. She looked at his defined features, recalling everything from the night before. All things considered, he wasnโ€™t a bad choice. This kind of relationship between them worked just fine. It kept things simple, without the need for emotional entanglements. Right now, she didnโ€™t have the luxury to focus on love.

Walton Corporation was still waiting for her to bring about change. The projects had come too far to let her ease up now. She wouldnโ€™t allow herself to back down, and she wouldnโ€™t let anyone else get in her way, either.

Before getting out of bed, Aurora cast one last long look at Lucas. Then she washed up and headed straight to the office.

It was only after she left that Lucas slowly opened his eyes. Heโ€™d known she was sitting there, watching him for a while โ€“ he just hadnโ€™t opened his eyes. He wasnโ€™t blind to the distance that had formed between them. And he knew this wasnโ€™t something that could be fixed overnight.

With a sigh, Lucas raised a hand to his brow, feeling a familiar weariness settle in. The battle wasnโ€™t over yet. He still had a long way to go. He got out of bed and decided to head into the office, too. It was better to be at work than stuck at home, especially with Wendy still lingering around the houseโ€”just the thought of dealing with her gave him a headache.

He might as well head to the office early. It was better than staying here. Lucas rubbed his temples again at the thought. Things had come this far, and Kenneth still hadnโ€™t taken Wendy home. How much longer was she planning to stay?

Meanwhile, Wendy was currently enjoying herself at Seafront Corporation, completely at ease. Thanks to Kenneth pulling some strings, she was thriving there without a care in the world. And being a department director wasnโ€™t just for show.

Wendy kept a constant eye on Auroraโ€™s every move. The moment anything happened, her people would report it to her without delay. She skimmed through a few documents, then glanced at her assistant. โ€œGood job. Keep watching her at this level. And make sure you donโ€™t miss a single detail. I want her living under my microscope for the rest of her life.โ€

โ€œYes, Miss Shaws,โ€ the assistant replied with a respectful nod.

โ€œYes, Miss Shaws,โ€ the assistant replied with a respectful nod.

Still, he couldnโ€™t quite understand why Wendy was so fixated on Aurora. Did something happen between them that was so unforgivable? Sure, their companies competed in the same space, but the rivalry wasnโ€™t nearly intense enough to justify this level of obsession. If anything, it seemed like Wendy simply couldnโ€™t stand Aurora and used work as an excuse to act on it.

Thinking that, the assistant hesitated, then added, โ€œBy the way, Miss Shaws, it seems Auroraโ€™s been busy with a foreign project lately. But since Seafront isnโ€™t involved in that sector, should we still keep tracking it?โ€

He wasnโ€™t sure if the project was worth pursuing, especially when it had nothing to do with their own operations.
