Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let Wendy stay with Lucas for so long in the first place. Lucas was the one he trusted most—his best friend. If the two of them truly ended up together, it would only bring more benefits than harm.

Steeling himself, Kenneth finally replied, “I’ll help you. You’re my only sister. Who else would I help if not you?”

Hearing that, Wendy smiled, her tone sweet with affection. “I knew you were the best, brother. All these years, you’ve always been the one who cared about me most.”

Kenneth felt a wave of emotion rise in him. “You’ve been following me around since you were a kid. If I don’t look after you, who will?”

Wendy didn’t say anything, but the happiness in her eyes wasn't faked. She truly did rely on Kenneth. And if she could use him to bring Aurora down, all the better—less trouble for her.

“But, you still need to tell me who exactly you’re targeting,” Kenneth added.

Wendy’s gaze turned cold and sharp. “You don’t need to know that. Just know this—she’s the one who’s made your little sister’s life miserable.”

If it weren’t for that woman, she might already be married to Lucas by now. Instead, she was still just a guest in the Carter household. She’d been putting up with their cold stares and silent treatment for far too long, and all that resentment had long since begun to fester. Now that she finally had an opening, there was no way she’d let it slip away.

“Alright then. I’ll find someone today to take care of it,” Kenneth said. “But you take care of yourself over there in Ravenshore, okay?”

He felt a stab of guilt for his sister. She’d always been willful, and he knew that about her.

But precisely because of that, he believed Lucas was the only one who could truly keep her in check. And Lucas was someone he trusted deeply. If the two of them ended up together, he’d have no concerns at all.

But in the end, between his brother and his sister, Kenneth still chose his sister. Even knowing Lucas was already married, he couldn’t bear to see Wendy heartbroken and lost. There had never been an easy way to please both sides; some choices came with inevitable cost.

Wendy’s heart softened. She and her brother had been close since they were kids, and no one knew better than she did just how much he cared for her. If he hadn’t cared, she wouldn’t have been able to act so willful for so long. She had been in Ravenshore for quite a while now. Her parents hadn’t called once; that could only mean Kenneth had been helping her behind the scenes.

Her eyes turned misty. “Don’t worry about me, brother. I’m doing fine here. And with Lakey by my side, you really don’t need to worry.”

At the mention of “Lakey,” Kenneth’s gaze dimmed, but in the end, he said nothing.

“You’re not a child anymore. Some things, you’ll have to decide for yourself. I’m your brother, but you’re an adult now."

“Maybe I’ve been nagging too much… but more than anything, I just want you to be healthy and happy.”

Wendy nearly burst into tears. She managed to hold it back. She knew she’d been acting selfish lately. Otherwise, her brother wouldn’t be so worn down.

Still, it was Wendy who ended the call first. Dragging it out with him like this wouldn’t help. The priority now was stopping Aurora’s overseas project. She couldn’t let that woman succeed so easily.
