Kenneth stared at the phone screen for a long time after the call ended, frozen in place before finally picking it up again and dialing his assistant.
โLook into John York from LC Corporation. Report any movement or activity to me directly.โ
โYes, sir. Leave it to me.โ
With that, the call ended.
Kennethโs gaze darkened.
This time, he would meet John in person.
He wanted to see for himself whether the man lived up to the rumors of being a powerful force in the industry.
Without John, Walton Corporation was just another small, unremarkable name.
That thought alone lifted his mood.
โDonโt worry, sister,โ he thought. โIโll handle what you asked personally.โ
Walton Corporation.
โHave you heard? Thereโs a problem with the overseas project!โ
โWhat? I thought everything was going smoothly?โ
โExactly! What happened? Our general manager and that director, John, already confirmed the collaboration at the banquetโhow could there suddenly be issues?โ
The office was buzzing with speculation. No one could tell whether the rumors were true or not.
At the center of it all, Aurora remained seated in her office, calm and unreadable, her expression giving nothing away.
Her assistant, on the other hand, was pacing back and forth in front of her desk, clearly agitated.
โI mean, seriously, how can you still be this calm, Miss Walton?โ
Aurora raised her eyes slightly and replied with steady poise, โThen tell me, how should I be reacting?โ The question left him momentarily speechless.
Meanwhile, she took a slow sip of the freshly brewed tea by her side, completely at ease, while he stood there nearly tearing his hair out.
โThat may be, but you definitely shouldnโt be this calm,โ Ian snapped, throwing his hands up. โJohn going back on his word like thisโhow is that even acceptable? We already had everything confirmed!โ
Aurora stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the traffic flow outside. A wave of quiet reflection settled over her.
โIn business, people pulling tricks like this is nothing new. And even if I were to lose hair in chunks from stress, would that fix anything?โ
Ian was caught off guard. โWellโฆ when you put it like thatโฆ So, what do we do now, Miss Walton?โ
โFor now, we wait.โ
Auroraโs eyes narrowed slightly.
Something about the timing didnโt sit right with her.
They werenโt even at the final signing stage yet, and already LC Group dared to back out so blatantly?
Sheโd be lying if she said she wasnโt angry.
But it wasnโt the time to lose her head, not yet.
Taking a deep breath, she said, โReach out to John. See when heโs available. Tell him I want to meet in person.
โAnd shut down those rumors flying around outside. Make sure people arenโt spreading nonsense.โ
She stretched her arms casually. โNow more than ever, we need to stay calm.
โThere are too many eyes on us right now. If I lose control or fail to deliver this project, do you really think Iโd survive under the weight of their scrutiny?โ
Ian paused, then nodded. โYouโre right. Iโll get it done, Miss Walton.
โIโll get that meeting with John set up, and Iโll take care of the office gossip. You donโt have to worry about a thing.โ
