Listen to this chapter:

Kenneth stared at the phone screen for a long time after the call ended, frozen in place before finally picking it up again and dialing his assistant.

โ€œLook into John York from LC Corporation. Report any movement or activity to me directly.โ€

โ€œYes, sir. Leave it to me.โ€

With that, the call ended.

Kennethโ€™s gaze darkened.

This time, he would meet John in person.

He wanted to see for himself whether the man lived up to the rumors of being a powerful force in the industry.

Without John, Walton Corporation was just another small, unremarkable name.

That thought alone lifted his mood.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, sister,โ€ he thought. โ€œIโ€™ll handle what you asked personally.โ€

Walton Corporation.

โ€œHave you heard? Thereโ€™s a problem with the overseas project!โ€

โ€œWhat? I thought everything was going smoothly?โ€

โ€œExactly! What happened? Our general manager and that director, John, already confirmed the collaboration at the banquetโ€”how could there suddenly be issues?โ€

The office was buzzing with speculation. No one could tell whether the rumors were true or not.

At the center of it all, Aurora remained seated in her office, calm and unreadable, her expression giving nothing away.

Her assistant, on the other hand, was pacing back and forth in front of her desk, clearly agitated.

โ€œI mean, seriously, how can you still be this calm, Miss Walton?โ€

Aurora raised her eyes slightly and replied with steady poise, โ€œThen tell me, how should I be reacting?โ€ The question left him momentarily speechless.

Meanwhile, she took a slow sip of the freshly brewed tea by her side, completely at ease, while he stood there nearly tearing his hair out.

โ€œThat may be, but you definitely shouldnโ€™t be this calm,โ€ Ian snapped, throwing his hands up. โ€œJohn going back on his word like thisโ€”how is that even acceptable? We already had everything confirmed!โ€

Aurora stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the traffic flow outside. A wave of quiet reflection settled over her.

โ€œIn business, people pulling tricks like this is nothing new. And even if I were to lose hair in chunks from stress, would that fix anything?โ€

Ian was caught off guard. โ€œWellโ€ฆ when you put it like thatโ€ฆ So, what do we do now, Miss Walton?โ€

โ€œFor now, we wait.โ€

Auroraโ€™s eyes narrowed slightly.

Something about the timing didnโ€™t sit right with her.

They werenโ€™t even at the final signing stage yet, and already LC Group dared to back out so blatantly?

Sheโ€™d be lying if she said she wasnโ€™t angry.

But it wasnโ€™t the time to lose her head, not yet.

Taking a deep breath, she said, โ€œReach out to John. See when heโ€™s available. Tell him I want to meet in person.

โ€œAnd shut down those rumors flying around outside. Make sure people arenโ€™t spreading nonsense.โ€

She stretched her arms casually. โ€œNow more than ever, we need to stay calm.

โ€œThere are too many eyes on us right now. If I lose control or fail to deliver this project, do you really think Iโ€™d survive under the weight of their scrutiny?โ€

Ian paused, then nodded. โ€œYouโ€™re right. Iโ€™ll get it done, Miss Walton.

โ€œIโ€™ll get that meeting with John set up, and Iโ€™ll take care of the office gossip. You donโ€™t have to worry about a thing.โ€
