Chapter 355
Aurora hadnโt known Lucas for nearly as long. Between the two, Wendy was sure Lucas would choose her brother in the end. With that thought, her mood lightened considerably. She picked up her phone and called her brother.
And on the other end, Kenneth, who had been ignoring Lucasโs calls all this time, picked up immediately the moment he saw his sisterโs name flash on the screen. If Lucas had seen that, he wouldโve been furious. After all this time trying to reach Kenneth with no luck, all it took was one call from Wendy to get through? If this wasnโt premeditated, then what was? It was obvious the siblings were deliberately avoiding him.
But for now, Lucas knew none of this. He had no idea what was going on in their heads. If he had a choice, he wouldโve preferred a quiet life with Aurora โ just the two of them, free from anyone elseโs interference.
Kenneth hadnโt really wanted to take Wendyโs call, but then again, she was alone in Ravenshore. If something happened to her, heโd never be able to live it down. Besides, no one at home even knew she had snuck back into the country. So, with all things considered, Kenneth answered quickly.
โWhat is it, Wendy? Whatโs going on?โ
Wendy could instantly hear the irritation in his voice. After everything sheโd gone through today, the coldness in her brotherโs tone stung. Her voice turned sharp in response. โBrother, whatโs that supposed to mean? Are you annoyed with me now?โ
Kenneth frowned, clearly frustrated with her attitude. โThatโs not what I meant. Youโre the one who called me โ if youโve got something to say, then say it.โ Heโd been working all day and didnโt have the energy to deal with her tantrums. And truth be told, he was already anxious.
Lucas had been calling him nonstop. He knew Lucas well enough to realize that something had to be wrong. If Wendy hadnโt caused some kind of trouble, there was no reason Lucas would be this persistent. The more Kenneth thought about it, the more agitated he became. He had no idea what kind of trouble his sister had stirred up back home, but one thing was clear โ Lucas wouldnโt be calling him nonstop for no reason. Just the thought of facing Lucas again made him uneasy.
That manโs expression alone could be terrifying, and with how much influence and power heโd gained over the years, Kenneth knew better than to say the wrong thing. Though Wendy was usually close with her brother, she still feared him when he put on that stern face. After all, he had always been the authoritative figure in her life.
โItโs not a major thing, really,โ Wendy said in a deliberately soft tone. โI just wanted to tell you I havenโt been doing very well here. That womanโs been bullying me.โ
Kennethโs heart softened a little at the sound of her grievance. She was, after all, the pampered princess of the family โ their precious little sister. โWhat did she do to you?โ
Despite his anger, Kenneth knew better than to accept his sisterโs version of the story at face value. He tended to get the full report, especially now, when heโd been dodging Lucasโ calls and feeling increasingly uneasy about it. He really studied the details and went straight to the part that would hit hardest.
โIโm staying at Sakaryโs place, right? Sheโs trying to make me leave. She said she doesnโt want me living here anymore.โ
โHer tone was cold and harsh, and she even said that even if you showed up in person, it wouldnโt make a difference.โ Kennethโs eyes narrowed. That last part hit a nerve.
