โAfter all, I know better than anyone just how beautiful and exceptional my wife is,โ Lucas said with a deepening smile. โI donโt know what others might be thinking, but I do hope you wonโt disappoint me, Mr. Knight.โ โOf course,โ Leonard replied coolly, lifting a brow in return.
Aurora stood between them, cheeks flushing at the exchange. While Leonard wasnโt looking, she reached out and pinched Lucas hard. He winced, turning toward her in surprise, only to meet her warning glare. His expression immediately softened into something far more appeasing. Aurora let out a cold huff, signaling a temporary truce between them. Still, hearing Lucas call her good-looking and talented, especially in front of Leonard, was beyond embarrassing.
What on earth had gotten into him? Did he forget she still had her pride?
โBy the way, what are you doing here?โ Aurora asked, genuinely confused. Were these two somehow planning to meet up here? But judging by the tension crackling between them, that seemed highly unlikely. She tilted her head slightly, eyes shifting back and forth between them. Lucas and Leonard exchanged a glance. Under Auroraโs probing gaze, even they felt slightly awkward.
Lucas cleared his throat and was the first to explain. โWhat are you imagining? I called and you didnโt answer, so I came to the office to look for you.โ The next second, he tilted his chin toward Leonard with a note of irritation. โAnd of course, the moment j'arrive, I see you two together.โ
Hearing the slight accusation in his tone, Aurora couldnโt help but feel a little guilty. She picked up her phone and checked.
It was dead.
โYou see? I didnโt ignore your call on purpose,โ Aurora said with a soft smile. Hearing that Lucas had come all the way to the office just because he was worried about her filled her with a quiet warmth.
Lucas reached over and gently ruffled her hair. โAlright, I wasnโt blaming you. Come on, letโs head inside.โ
Leonard suddenly remembered why they were even there. โThatโs right, Aurora. You really should go see the Chairwoman yourself. I doubt youโd feel at ease if anyone else handled it.โ
Aurora cast him a grateful look. She had to admit that Leonard really did know how to take care of people. From the very beginning, he had always been quietly there for her. And when heโd heard about Grace being hospitalized, he had called her right away to check in. Not only that, but before Lucas had even shown up, Leonard was already here, dressed properly and ready to help.
As their eyes met, Leonard sensed something in her gaze and asked, โWhat is it?โ
Aurora gave a small smile. โNothing. I just think that right now, my mom is what matters most. So I hope both of you can stop bickering and get along for once. Only then can we really focus on finding out whatโs going on with her.โ
Lucas and Leonard exchanged a glance, one that was clearly reluctant, but in front of Aurora, they both managed to keep up the faรงade of harmony.
โGood. Thatโs how it should be,โ Aurora said, clearly pleased as she patted both of them on the shoulder like she was proud of two stubborn schoolboys finally learning to behave. Only she could get away with something like that.
