After all, no one else would have dared to act this way; only Aurora could pull it off. And it was precisely because of Lucasโ presence that she could be so bold. Leonard naturally stepped up beside her, ready to move forward.
โAlright, letโs head inside and see whatโs going on.โ
As the three of them entered the building, they were greeted by the perfectly made-up receptionist.
โMiss Waltonโฆโ
The sing-song voices from the front desk sounded almost like a litter of purring kittens.
โIf youโve got something to say, just say it properly,โ Aurora said with a raised brow. โDonโt stand there acting like youโre about to cry.โ
She watched as the receptionist anxiously dusted herself off, even wiping down her suit like she was polishing a trophy.
โAll done. Everythingโs yours. Iโve taken care of it,โ the receptionist said hurriedly.
Leonard couldnโt help but chuckle at Auroraโs reaction.
But she remained calm. โItโs alright. I know exactly what those shares mean.โ
She wasnโt looking to cause a scene right now. She also knew that if those shares stayed in her hands for long, it wouldnโt take much for people to try and snatch them away. If nothing else, Aurora had learned to be keenly aware of her situation.
Leonard glanced at her, seeing how caught she was between diplomacy and pressure, and gently reminded, โAurora, right now what matters most is finding out where the Chairwoman is. We canโt afford to waste time here.โ
His words snapped her back to reality. She turned to Lucas with an apologetic look. โIโm sorry. You came all the way to the company today, and I havenโt even been able to properly welcome you.โ
Lucas and Leonard exchanged a glanceโneither had expected that, beneath Auroraโs seemingly easygoing nature, she was still so considerate.
โLetโs head upstairs,โ Lucas said. โWeโre not going to find anything useful down here anyway.โ
Leonard gave a small nod and followed along.
At that moment, Lucasโ expression darkened. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ
โI already told you,โ Leonard said, lifting his chin with a touch of pride. โThe Chairwoman and I go way back. Even if I drop by to visit her, itโs completely appropriate.โ
His tone was casual, but the glint in his eyes made it clearโthis was pure provocation.
Lucas caught it immediately. Aurora did too. Even from the side, she could tell exactly what Leonard was doing.
Still, she couldnโt deny that there was a certain thrill in having this sense of control, of being the one both men were dancing around.
They all made their way to her office.
At first, Aurora felt a little unsettled. After all, she had said some sharp things to her mother. Now, returning to the company felt awkward. But she quickly reminded herself that this wasnโt the time to dwell on pride or past arguments. Graceโs health was the priority now. Everything else could wait.
Chapter 386
Aurora looked at the two men. โMake yourselves comfortable. Once I confirm where the Chairwoman is, weโll head over together.โ
Lucas and Leonard kept up their act of civility, but it was just thatโan act. Leonard, though calm on the surface, was quietly watching Lucas the entire time, studying his every move. There was something about him that didnโt sit right. And the longer Leonard stared, the more familiar Lucas looked. This time, Leonard was sureโLucas wasnโt just some pretty face. No, he was something else entirely.
And Aurora? She was being played. At least, thatโs what Leonard was starting to believe.
