Chapter 438
She didnโt want to put Grace in a difficult position. Besides, it was all just speculations on her part. Or maybe not even that, just those strange, chill-soaked thoughts that had lingered over the years. After all, who would believe something like that?
She and Tessa had grown up together since they were kids; how could they possibly not be related by blood? It was the kind of thought she kept to herself, never something she would say aloud in front of Grace. She would never know how Grace would react to a remark like that.
What Aurora didnโt know, though, was that this accidental suspicion of hers might not be so far off the mark. But without any proof, without even a concrete theory, she couldnโt possibly accuse Tessa of anything. No one could, not in a situation like this.
Besides, she and Tessa had lived under the same roof their whole lives. Grace had always treated them both equallyโfor the most part. The only difference was that, because of Tessaโs fragile health, Grace did tend to dote on her a bit more. Other than that, there hadnโt been any glaring disparities between them.
That was also why Aurora eventually dismissed her doubts. If she really decided to dig deeper, she mightโve found that some things werenโt all that different from what she imagined. But thinking about it now, Aurora couldnโt help but wonder if she was being ridiculous. She wasnโt living in some dramatic novel. How could something so theatrical possibly happen to her?
And Tessa was someone she had known for as long as she could remember. They had grown up together. On that front, Aurora still had unwavering certainty. So, what reason did she have to doubt? She gave a slight shake of her head, trying to fling those bizarre thoughts out of her mind. She needed to let all those nonsensical and tangled-up suspicions go. She definitely couldnโt bring it up in front of Grace.
What if her motherโs health couldnโt handle the shock? That was one thing. The other wasโAurora didnโt even know how to start that kind of conversation. She had no proof and real basis. It wouldnโt be right to throw around baseless accusations.
She and Tessa had lived together for so many years. If she suddenly said something like that, how would Grace, or anyone else, react? Thinking that, Aurora eventually shelved the whole idea. She headed straight to the bathroom for a shower. The day had left her completely drained. From the office to the hospital, then back to the office again, and finally home at last. And on top of all that, the incident with Wendyโs food had worn her out even more. After such a long day, all she wanted now was to lie down and rest.
While the water ran over her, Aurora recalled the look Lucas had given her earlierโthat lingering, unreadable gaze. Sheโd been slightly amused by it at the time, even a little flattered. But right now, all she wanted was for everything to be over. Letting out a deep breath, she tilted her head back and rinsed the soap from her body. She had been through so much lately, it was no wonder her mind kept racing.
Sheโd genuinely believed Wendy had tampered with the food. But all this time had passed, and nothing strange had happened. That alone was enough to make her feel at ease. Maybe Wendy really was changing. Maybe, it was time she started letting go of some of her biases. It was time to see if things could shift, even just a little. Even if it was Wendy, Aurora figured she could at least try to be open to the idea of a changed perspective.
Meanwhile, the very same Wendy whom Aurora claimed she was willing to give a second chance was quietly pushing open a door, peeking outside with a sneaky glint in her eyes.
