Chapter 485

Caught between fear and survival, the doctor finally gave in.

โ€œThis is the last time. I wonโ€™t do anything more after this.โ€

Tessaโ€™s lips curled into a slow, satisfied smile as she read his reply. She knew heโ€™d cave. He wasnโ€™t exactly clean to begin with โ€“ so why pretend to have principles now?

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, that little matter of yours? Iโ€™ll keep it buried. No one will ever find out, as long as you do exactly as I say.โ€

Reading her message, Gary Scott adjusted his glasses, his right hand trembling slightly.

He had no choice. Everything about these powerful families was rotten. He hadnโ€™t wanted to get involved, but now? There was no turning back.

โ€œAurora Walton, donโ€™t blame me for this. Blame your sister. I tried to say no. I really did. But she wants you gone.โ€

A cold glint flashed in Garyโ€™s eyes before he stood up and left his office to check which room Aurora had been assigned to. He was the head of orthopedics at Central Medical Center, and tonight just so happened to be his shift.

The tenth floor was nearly deserted, just a few nurses on rotation. When they saw him, they greeted him respectfully.

โ€œDr. Scott, itโ€™s your shift tonight?โ€

He gave a small nod, pushing up his glasses. โ€œYes. Iโ€™m making my rounds.โ€

โ€œUnderstood. Thank you for your hard work.โ€

He offered a faint smile and moved on without further conversation. Over the years, ever since that incident, he had carefully rebuilt his image. Within the hospital, his reputation was spotless. Colleagues sought his help, patients praised him, and his demeanor was always warm and dependable. So much so that most people had long forgotten what kind of man Gary used to be.

Gary finally managed to find the hospital room where Aurora was staying. When he saw that she was only suffering from acute gastroenteritis, he couldnโ€™t believe her own sister had hoped she wouldnโ€™t wake up. There was a flicker of pity in Garyโ€™s eyes. The affairs of the wealthy โ€“ people like him could never begin to understand them in this lifetime. Compared to all that, what heโ€™d done in the past seemed trivial โ€“ nothing worth mentioning at all. It was just childโ€™s play.

That thought made him even bolder. He avoided the surveillance and slipped into Auroraโ€™s room.

The IV drip she was on contained a sedative, so she was sleeping deeply and didnโ€™t notice anyone entering the room. Gary stood at her bedside, staring at her beautiful, delicate features. A trace of awe flashed through his eyes. He couldnโ€™t help but mutter inwardly, โ€œNo wonder her sister didnโ€™t like her. A woman this stunning would overshadow anyone.โ€

He had seen Tessa, too. She was attractive, but next to Aurora, she didnโ€™t even come close. The difference wasnโ€™t just a block or two โ€“ it was worlds apart. Gary reined in his admiration. This was a hospital, after all. Whatever thoughts he had, he needed to keep them in check.

Since Aurora was in a private room and disliked having cameras around, the lack of surveillance only made it easier for him to act. He pulled out the syringe heโ€™d brought and injected it straight into the inside of Auroraโ€™s upper arm.
