Chapter 485
Caught between fear and survival, the doctor finally gave in.
โThis is the last time. I wonโt do anything more after this.โ
Tessaโs lips curled into a slow, satisfied smile as she read his reply. She knew heโd cave. He wasnโt exactly clean to begin with โ so why pretend to have principles now?
โDonโt worry, that little matter of yours? Iโll keep it buried. No one will ever find out, as long as you do exactly as I say.โ
Reading her message, Gary Scott adjusted his glasses, his right hand trembling slightly.
He had no choice. Everything about these powerful families was rotten. He hadnโt wanted to get involved, but now? There was no turning back.
โAurora Walton, donโt blame me for this. Blame your sister. I tried to say no. I really did. But she wants you gone.โ
A cold glint flashed in Garyโs eyes before he stood up and left his office to check which room Aurora had been assigned to. He was the head of orthopedics at Central Medical Center, and tonight just so happened to be his shift.
The tenth floor was nearly deserted, just a few nurses on rotation. When they saw him, they greeted him respectfully.
โDr. Scott, itโs your shift tonight?โ
He gave a small nod, pushing up his glasses. โYes. Iโm making my rounds.โ
โUnderstood. Thank you for your hard work.โ
He offered a faint smile and moved on without further conversation. Over the years, ever since that incident, he had carefully rebuilt his image. Within the hospital, his reputation was spotless. Colleagues sought his help, patients praised him, and his demeanor was always warm and dependable. So much so that most people had long forgotten what kind of man Gary used to be.
Gary finally managed to find the hospital room where Aurora was staying. When he saw that she was only suffering from acute gastroenteritis, he couldnโt believe her own sister had hoped she wouldnโt wake up. There was a flicker of pity in Garyโs eyes. The affairs of the wealthy โ people like him could never begin to understand them in this lifetime. Compared to all that, what heโd done in the past seemed trivial โ nothing worth mentioning at all. It was just childโs play.
That thought made him even bolder. He avoided the surveillance and slipped into Auroraโs room.
The IV drip she was on contained a sedative, so she was sleeping deeply and didnโt notice anyone entering the room. Gary stood at her bedside, staring at her beautiful, delicate features. A trace of awe flashed through his eyes. He couldnโt help but mutter inwardly, โNo wonder her sister didnโt like her. A woman this stunning would overshadow anyone.โ
He had seen Tessa, too. She was attractive, but next to Aurora, she didnโt even come close. The difference wasnโt just a block or two โ it was worlds apart. Gary reined in his admiration. This was a hospital, after all. Whatever thoughts he had, he needed to keep them in check.
Since Aurora was in a private room and disliked having cameras around, the lack of surveillance only made it easier for him to act. He pulled out the syringe heโd brought and injected it straight into the inside of Auroraโs upper arm.
