Chapter 498
When he first arrived, Leonard had also been surprised.
How did someone perfectly fine suddenly come down with gastroenteritis?
The doctor said it wasnโt serious. As long as she ate properly and rested, sheโd recover.
Lucas stepped forward. โMove aside. I want to see her.โ
Ian thought about it for a moment.
They were husband and wife, after all โ there was no reason to stop him.
โAlright, go ahead.โ
Heโd come earlier in the morning to deliver food, thinking Aurora might be able to eat a little.
But to his shock, she hadnโt even woken up.
At first, he thought she was just sleeping in, but it didnโt take long to realize something was off.
She hadnโt stirred at all, not even once.
When Lucas entered the room, Aurora still lay motionless.
Her eyes were closed, breathing steady, as if simply sleeping.
But it wasnโt the same as a normal sleep.
Today, her lips were pale, and her whole body had a fragile, sickly look to it.
It was obvious that she wasnโt well.
Lucasโs chest tightened as he stared at her.
This was all his fault. If only heโd noticed sooner that something was wrongโฆ
He quietly pulled up a chair and sat by her bedside, gently taking her hand and pressing it against his cheek.
His eyes were filled with guilt and remorse.
The sight hit both Wendy and Leonard like a dagger to the heart.
Wendy had never seen Lucas like this.
In her mind, he had always been untouchable โ strong, proud, above everyone else.
This was the first time sheโd seen him so broken, so vulnerable in front of others.
He was always aloof in public. So why did he have to lower himself like this in front of Aurora?
Wendy couldnโt bear to see it. She didnโt want to.
Even her own brother had always tread carefully when speaking to Lucas.
So how could he now look like this โ so small, so fragile?
And for Aurora, of all people?
It was only fitting that she ended up in bed like this.
She brought this on herself. This was nothing more than what she deserved.
Wendy was secretly pleased.
She hoped Aurora would never wake up.
In her deep sleep, Aurora couldnโt have imagined that something as simple as gastroenteritis could make so many people resent her.
Some even wished she would stay unconscious forever.
Wendy was no surprise.
But for her own sister to sabotage herโฆ
This? How had things come to this?
Lucas turned to Ian and asked, โWhat exactly happened to Aurora? Was it the stomach issue last night?โ
He was done being left in the dark.
Even now, he still didnโt know what had truly caused this.
So much time had passed, and he still had no answers, only that she hadnโt woken up yet.
Ian began to explain everything from the past couple of days. โThe general managerโs been working overtime in the office nonstop. Sometimes she was so busy she didnโt even have time to eat.โ
โYou couldnโt remind her to eat?โ Leonard cut in sharply.
Hearing that Aurora had been skipping meals hit a nerve.
His heart ached just thinking about it.
Ian gave a bitter smile. โYou know what sheโs like. Thereโs no reasoning with her when sheโs set on something. You think someone like me can stop her? Itโs just not possible.โ
Lucas understood too well.
He knew exactly what kind of person Aurora was.
If she didnโt want to do something, no matter how hard others tried to persuade her, she simply wouldnโt budge.
