When he first arrived, Leonard had also been surprised.

How did someone perfectly fine suddenly come down with gastroenteritis?

The doctor said it wasn’t serious. As long as she ate properly and rested, she’d recover.

Lucas stepped forward. “Move aside. I want to see her.”

Ian thought about it for a moment.

They were husband and wife, after all – there was no reason to stop him.

“Alright, go ahead.”

He’d come earlier in the morning to deliver food, thinking Aurora might be able to eat a little.

But to his shock, she hadn’t even woken up.

At first, he thought she was just sleeping in, but it didn’t take long to realize something was off.

She hadn’t stirred at all, not even once.

When Lucas entered the room, Aurora still lay motionless.

Her eyes were closed, breathing steady, as if simply sleeping.

But it wasn’t the same as a normal sleep.

Today, her lips were pale, and her whole body had a fragile, sickly look to it.

It was obvious that she wasn’t well.

Lucas’s chest tightened as he stared at her.

This was all his fault. If only he’d noticed sooner that something was wrong…

He quietly pulled up a chair and sat by her bedside, gently taking her hand and pressing it against his cheek.

His eyes were filled with guilt and remorse.

The sight hit both Wendy and Leonard like a dagger to the heart.

Wendy had never seen Lucas like this.

In her mind, he had always been untouchable – strong, proud, above everyone else.

This was the first time she’d seen him so broken, so vulnerable in front of others.

He was always aloof in public. So why did he have to lower himself like this in front of Aurora?

Wendy couldn’t bear to see it. She didn’t want to.

Even her own brother had always tread carefully when speaking to Lucas.

So how could he now look like this – so small, so fragile?

And for Aurora, of all people?

It was only fitting that she ended up in bed like this.

She brought this on herself. This was nothing more than what she deserved.

Wendy was secretly pleased.

She hoped Aurora would never wake up.

In her deep sleep, Aurora couldn’t have imagined that something as simple as gastroenteritis could make so many people resent her.

Some even wished she would stay unconscious forever.

Lucas turned to Ian and asked, “What exactly happened to Aurora? Was it the stomach issue last night?”

He was done being left in the dark.

Even now, he still didn’t know what had truly caused this.

So much time had passed, and he still had no answers, only that she hadn’t woken up yet.

Ian began to explain everything from the past couple of days. “The general manager’s been working overtime in the office nonstop. Sometimes she was so busy she didn’t even have time to eat.”

“You couldn’t remind her to eat?” Leonard cut in sharply.

Hearing that Aurora had been skipping meals hit a nerve.

His heart ached just thinking about it.

Ian gave a bitter smile. “You know what she’s like. There’s no reasoning with her when she’s set on something. You think someone like me can stop her? It’s just not possible.”

Lucas understood too well.

He knew exactly what kind of person Aurora was.

If she didn’t want to do something, no matter how hard others tried to persuade her, she simply wouldn’t budge.
