How could Julian not fall for a woman like Tessa?

He didn’t want to let go of her, holding her tightly as they cuddled on the bed.

Tessa was happy at first, but her smile eventually faded.

“Alright, alright, stop clinging to me. We’ve got more important things to deal with!”

After a while, Tessa felt completely numb.

Julian was great in so many ways, except he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

Once he got into something, his brain seemed to focus only on that one thing.

When it came to serious matters, he didn’t seem to have much energy left.

It was like, in Julian’s mind, bedroom affairs were somehow more important than real-life ones.

Thinking about it annoyed her.

Julian finally let go, slightly embarrassed. “Okay, okay, I just love you too much, baby. That’s why I didn’t want to let go. Come on, if it were anyone else, I wouldn’t be like this.”

Tessa was amused by his sweet words, but she didn’t forget the more pressing issues.

“Alright, stop with the sweet talk. The hospital situation is far more important. Don’t you dare forget about it.”

With that, Tessa started getting dressed again.

Julian, still lounging in bed, only began to dress after she was done.

He still thought Tessa was just being overly anxious.

There was really no need for it–Aurora was already down, and that pretty boy didn’t seem capable of stirring up much trouble.

But hearing that only made Tessa even more uneasy.

“Don’t you think that so-called pretty boy has something off about him?”

She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but the feeling was there.

Maybe she wouldn’t have felt it so strongly if it were someone else.

But it was because Lucas had acted so out of the ordinary that Tessa found it strange.

Julian looked at how worried she was and still couldn’t help feeling a bit dismissive.

“Alright, Tessa, stop overthinking everything.”

He urged her to hurry up. “You’re just scaring yourself. Nothing’s really going on. You’re probably just exhausted from the past few days.”

Hearing that, Tessa let go of her lingering doubts.

“You’re right, Julian.”

She regained her usual spark. “Once everything settles down, I’ll definitely reward you properly.”

As she spoke, she playfully scratched Julian’s chin and added, “Just focus on what you need to do. We only need to hold this final line.”

After Tessa left, Julian’s smile gradually faded.

He slowly got dressed at his own pace.

In his opinion, Tessa was still overthinking things.

That pretty boy Lucas—what kind of threat could he possibly pose?

There was no way he was as capable as Tessa imagined.

Julian had always believed there was nothing to worry about, at least, until later, when he truly came to understand what Lucas was capable of.

But that was a story for another time.

When Tessa got home, she saw Grace sitting in the living room, her expression grim.

She hesitated, then called out, “Mom? Why aren’t you resting in your room? Your body’s only just recovered. You need to take good care of yourself. You can’t be careless.”

As she spoke, Tessa gave her mother a sweet, obedient smile, looking perfectly well-behaved.
