Chapter 504
But Grace no longer had the energy to care about any of that. She had thought Aurora would be just fine on her own out there. Who would have expected that in just a few days, sheโd end up in the hospital? Grace still couldnโt quite accept it. Now, facing Tessaโs smiling face, she didnโt even know what to say.
Tessa felt uneasy under her motherโs stare. Why was Grace looking at her like that? Had she found out something?
No, that couldnโt be. Everything she had done was well-hiddenโno one could possibly know, unless she chose to tell them herself. With that thought, Tessa grew bolder. She looked directly at her mother and said, โMom, Iโm back. Why are you still sitting here in the living room? And just now, when I was talking to you, you looked completely spaced out. You didnโt even respond.โ
Grace finally snapped out of it. โNo, I was just thinking about the company,โ she said, forcing herself to sound collected, as if she hadnโt just been lost in thought.
Arnold watched Grace closely, worried. After all, he had watched Aurora grow up. And now she was lying unconscious in a hospital bed. When he first heard the news, he was devastated. But Grace had only stared off blankly for a few seconds before going silent. He didnโt know what was going through her mind, but after serving this family for so many years, he couldnโt help but ache for that girl. He had watched her grow up; she was like a granddaughter to him. But in the end, he was just a servant in this household. There was nothing he could change.
Arnold thought it over but ultimately said nothing. He knew his words carried little weight and couldnโt change anything.
Tessa watched her mother, noticing how distracted she seemed. Her eyes narrowed slightlyโshe had a feeling Grace already knew something, just wasnโt saying it. So, Tessa gently nudged the conversation toward Auroraโs situation.
โMom, what are you so worried about?โ She smiled. โAuroraโs still at the company, right? Sheโs so capable, Iโm sure she can take good care of things. And besides, weโve seen how those collaborations are going. Thereโs really nothing to worry about. If you ask me, youโre just overthinking it.โ
The moment Grace heard Auroraโs name, her anxiety deepened. โYou donโt understand. Aurora alreadyโฆโ
Realizing sheโd said too much, Grace abruptly stopped and didnโt continue.
Tessa raised an eyebrow. โWhat is it, Mom? Did something happen to Aurora?โ
โNo.โ
Grace quickly composed herself. โYouโre not well. Go on upstairs and rest. Youโve just come back from being out, you shouldnโt overthink anything. Your health comes first.โ
Seeing her motherโs reaction, Tessa was now certain of one thing: Grace definitely knew Aurora was unconscious. It was time to move forward with Gary. They needed to increase the dosage. Once more people found out, itโd be harder for her to make any moves. This couldnโt be delayed.
โAlright, then you take care of yourself too, Mom. Iโll head upstairs,โ Tessa spoke considerately. โIf anything comes up, please tell me. I want to help too. I donโt want to just be some lazy daughter hiding behind you.โ
