After all, Aurora was his wife. They were family. Arnold sighed and, to his own surprise, began to feel differently about Lucas. “She’s always been a kind-hearted girl, though a little stubborn too.” Hearing that, Lucas couldn’t help falling into thought. Seeing that Lucas didn’t object, Arnold continued, “When she was little, she was incredibly gentle. Whether it was a stray kitten or puppy, even an ant–she couldn’t bring herself to hurt it. “But over the years, because of her conflicts with Madam Grace, she’s suffered a lot.” Thinking of that, Arnold’s mind went to Joseph–that scumbag. If not for that man, the rift between Grace and Aurora wouldn’t have widened the way it did. Arnold didn’t say it outright, but Lucas understood. That man he referred to was clearly Joseph. And it was precisely because of him that Aurora and her mother had such a strained relationship. To be honest, if he were her parent, he wouldn’t have allowed such a thing to happen either. Though Arnold was the Walton family’s butler, Lucas treated him with respect. After all, he had watched Aurora grow up. That made him half a guardian figure, and it was only right to show him courtesy. Seeing Lucas speak so sincerely, Arnold felt a wave of relief. “It’s enough that you think that way. That really puts my heart at ease.” Arnold patted Lucas on the shoulder. “Take good care of Miss Aurora. I’ll head back and update Madam Grace on what’s going on here.” Lucas gave a slight nod, showing he understood.

Since he had already come to check in, staying any longer wouldn’t change anything. It was better to head back early and report everything properly to Grace. That was what Arnold thought and exactly what he did. He turned and left the room, leaving Aurora confidently in Lucas‘ care. Lucas looked at Aurora’s sleeping face. His heart ached, but he knew this wasn’t the time for sorrow. There were more important things waiting for him. When Arnold stepped out, he found Ian still standing at the door, looking visibly shocked. “What’s wrong?” Seeing his expression, Arnold was a little confused. Ian quickly waved his hands. “Nothing, nothing. I just didn’t expect you to come out so soon.”
Arnold frowned slightly. “I wasn’t planning to stay overnight. Mr. Carter’s inside. What would I still be doing in there?” He cared about Aurora deeply, but he also understood when not to overstay his presence. Besides, he had other responsibilities–he needed to get back and report everything to Grace. He couldn’t just stay at the hospital all day.
