Chapter 531
Hearing that, Lucas hesitated. At first, he hadnโt taken it seriously, but Kenneth noticed the flicker of doubt in his eyes. Seizing the moment, he pressed on. โNo matter the outcome, at least let them try. Whatโs the harm?โ
Lucas didnโt respond right away. Instead, his gaze shifted to Aurora. Her delicate features, pale and still, tugged at something in him. Kenneth wasnโt wrong. If it meant even the slightest chance of helping her, he was willing to try things heโd never considered before.
And truthfully, they were running out of time. He couldnโt afford to wait any longer. Finally, he turned toward Kenneth. โIs this doctor of yours actually legit?โ
Kenneth didnโt even glance at Wendy, who stood quietly off to the side. He stepped forward, eager. โCompletely legit. Heโs a renowned neurologist Iโve worked with overseas, absolutely top-tier. You have my word, Lucas. When it comes to your wife, Iโd never joke around. I mean that.โ
Lucas pressed his lips into a thin line. He didnโt say it outright, but the look in his eyes said enoughโhe was on board.
Kenneth smiled in relief. โGreat. Iโll bring them in within the next couple of days. Donโt worry, Iโd never take chances with her health.โ
Lucas gave a low hum of acknowledgment before casting a brief glance toward Wendy by the door. โTake her with you.โ
Then he turned away, clearly done with the conversation. His meaning couldnโt have been clearer. He had nothing more to say to Wendyโand the only reason heโd even entertained this discussion was because of the doctor. If not for that, he wouldโve kicked them both out the moment they stepped in.
Kenneth caught on. He clenched his fists and said earnestly, โDonโt worry, Lucas. Iโll do everything I can to help your wife. And I would never gamble with my familyโs name. I couldnโt even if I wanted to.โ
Kennethโs last words came out softly. He was a grown man, and it still stung to lower his head in front of someone heโd spent his whole life comparing himself to. But when it came to the family, pride wasnโt worth much. He let out a quiet sigh, unsure of what else to say. โTake care of your wife, alright? Iโll get Wendy out of here.โ
Lucas didnโt respond. He simply turned his back on them, cold and distant.
Chapter 531
Even if Kenneth had once been his closest friend, nothing took precedence over Aurora. Not history, not friendship. Nothing. To Lucas, loving her meant more than anything elseโeven more than loving himself.
Kenneth stared at that proud, unyielding figure and couldnโt help the discomfort that settled in his chest. He drew in a breath, then left with Wendy reluctantly trailing behind.
But the moment they stepped outside, Wendy yanked her hand out of his grip. โYouโre seriously going to bring in doctors for that bitch?โ she snapped. Sheโd been hoping Aurora would stay unconscious forever. That way, no one could steal Lucas from her.
Her voice rose sharply, and Kennethโs eyes widened in alarm. Without hesitation, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her farther from the hospital entrance. Only once he was sure they were out of earshot did he finally release her, exhaling hard. โAre you out of your mind?โ he hissed. โDo you have any idea whoโs in that room?โ
