Chapter 550

Julian had originally been wandering around the hospital aimlessly, wearing a face mask, hoping to catch a glimpse of Aurora. But in the next moment, he sensed something was off. Why were there suddenly so many foreign doctors appearing in this hospital? Was there a consultation happening that he hadnโ€™t been informed about? Julian didnโ€™t know why, but the sight of those doctors made his heart race with unease.

He immediately called Tessa. Tessa was at the office, buried in work and already overwhelmed. When she saw Julianโ€™s call, her frustration spiked. Why did he always have to call her the moment something happened? Was he not capable of handling anything on his own at his age? She took a deep breath. Thinking about how she still needed to use him later, she forced herself to be patient and waited for him to speak. She was curious, after allโ€“what was so urgent that Julian needed to call her?

โ€œTessa, are you busy?โ€

Tessa ground her teeth. โ€œIf youโ€™ve got something to say, then say it. Donโ€™t waste my time with pointless chatter.โ€

Only then did Julian nod quickly, his demeanor completely different from how he acted in front of Lily. With Lily, he was arrogant and overbearing, never once considering her feelings. In fact, the more broken she looked, the more exhilarated he became, as if she awakened his most primal, beast-like desires. But none of that ever showed in front of Tessa because anyone with sense knew how to bend to the strong and bully the weak. To him, Tessa was practically a money tree. Even his parents showed her respectโ€“so naturally, he had to as well, especially now, before Hayes Enterprises and Walton Corporations had officially partnered; he couldnโ€™t afford to make any reckless moves.

โ€œOkay, okay. I just called to ask you about something.โ€

Tessa let out a distracted โ€œMm,โ€ waiting for him to go on. She stared at the contracts in front of her, feeling nothing but a mess of frustration. Why hadnโ€™t she noticed before that these contracts were practically unreadable? It felt like deciphering some ancient script. Half the time, she didnโ€™t even know what she was thinking, and all the transition tasks the executives had discussed with her had all gone over her head. Now, right at this critical moment, Julianโ€™s phone call was making her even more irritated.

Julian had no choice but to get to the point. He could hear the impatience in her voice, but there wasnโ€™t much he could do. This matter was too important, so he had to ask. โ€œI saw a bunch of foreign doctors at the hospital. You think this has something to do with Aurora?โ€ He swallowed nervously. โ€œThat brother-in-law of yoursโ€“whatโ€™s his deal? Something feels really off about him.โ€

At that, Tessa finally put down the files in her hand. She stood up slowly, sensing that something might actually be wrong. After all, up until now, she had always assumed Lucas was just an ordinary man. Even during that birthday party, when Lucas gave a gift far more extravagant than Julianโ€™s, Tessa had simply brushed it off, thinking he was just another flashy nouveau riche.
