But after hearing what Julian said, she started to feel something was off, too. This wasn’t the kind of power a nouveau riche could possibly have.

“Do you know any of those doctors?” Tessa’s tone turned a little grim.

Julian nodded. “That’s exactly why I called. I do know some of them, especially those foreign specialists. That’s why I think your brother-in-law’s identity isn’t simple at all. If he was just a pretty boy like we thought before, then something’s definitely off.”

Tessa paused. “Keep an eye on things for now. Let me know if anything comes up. I’m still tied up on my end.”

Tessa hesitated. Should she go to the hospital herself? After all, ever since Aurora’s accident, she hadn’t actually gone to the hospital to see her. People on the outside must be saying all sorts of things about her by now. She might as well use this chance to find out what was really going on.

After some thought, Tessa sent Julian a message: “You keep watching. I’m heading over now.”

When Julian saw the message, he inexplicably felt at ease. He was starting to rely on Tessa more and more. Wherever she was, things felt a little steadier. She’d grown so much lately that it actually scared him a bit. She’d really improved a lot. The way she approached problems and viewed situations was nothing like how he would have handled them. Compared to Lily, Tessa was clearly the better fit. It seemed Lily was only suited to be a woman to be kept at home. When it came to a man’s career, she offered absolutely no help.

With that realization, Julian softened his attitude toward Tessa. “Alright, babe. I’ll keep watch for you and find out exactly what’s going on.” Julian spoke with a serious expression. “If anything happens on my end, I’ll let you know right away.”

After reading the message, Tessa didn’t say anything more and began packing her things to head to the hospital. The senior executives felt uneasy when they saw her stand up. Tessa’s abrupt arrival had already stirred resentment–she had taken over the acting general manager position out of nowhere. If not for her, with Aurora absent from the company recently, they would’ve had the perfect chance to prove themselves and slowly replace her. But now that Tessa had taken the role, it meant the company was still tightly held in the Walton family’s hands. No matter how many shares they owned, that was all they’d ever be—just shareholders, nothing more. Anything more was clearly out of the question. The thought left the executives even more bitter.

“You just got here. Now you’re leaving again? Have you even understood the handover materials yet?” An older executive criticized her openly. He clearly disapproved of Tessa’s approach. She had only just arrived, and now she was preparing to leave the company again. Who knew how many contracts she had actually reviewed? Was she already unable to handle the pressure? If she couldn’t even manage this much, she might as well give up the position altogether. It was better to leave the industry before it swallowed her whole.

Tessa was speechless. The moment she promised Julian she’d leave the office, she had already imagined this exact scene.
