โDonโt overthink it. If anything happens, Iโll tell you right away.โ
โAlright, Mom, Iโll be waiting for your good news. Iโm really worried about Aurora.โ
Tessaโs voice choked as she spoke.
Hearing Tessaโs voice, Grace didnโt know how to respond. Her feelings were complicated. In the end, she just offered a casual word of comfort and hung up the phone.
Tessa looked at the disconnected call, then scoffed with disdain. Julian quickly stepped forward to ask, โHow did it go? Did Madam Grace believe what you said?โ
Since he had been standing at a distance, he could only occasionally hear Tessa speaking. But the rest, especially Graceโs response, he hadnโt heard a thing. So, even now, Julian was still curious. He wanted to know what Grace had actually said. And given Tessaโs masterful performance, it should have worked.
Tessa snorted. โOf course it worked. As much as she pretends not to care about Aurora, she actually does. After all these years, Aurora still doesnโt see through it. Sheโs always at odds with Mom, what a fool.โ
โYouโre really something,โ Julian said sincerely.
Tessa raised an eyebrow. โSo, as long as I make things sound serious enough, thereโs no real issue. The rest? Thatโs for Mom to handle. We donโt need to worry about anything.โ
Julian nodded and pulled Tessa closer, their bodies pressing together instantly.
Tessa smiled and pushed him lightly. โWhat are you doing? Weโre still at the hospital entrance.โ
Julian, undeterred, shrugged. โSo what? This hospital is mostly funded by my family. Whatโs there to be afraid of? Besides, youโre my girlfriend. Weโre practically getting married. Whatโs there to worry about? Should I be avoiding something?โ
Tessaโs gaze flickered for a moment. Hearing the word โmarriedโ still made her feel uneasy. But seeing Julian so excited, she ultimately didnโt want to spoil the mood. After all, her dissatisfaction with him was something she kept to herself and didnโt voice directly. She was smart enough to know that. And right now, Julian still had some use to her, so she couldnโt just discard him. That wouldnโt be very reasonable. Besides, at this point, this man wasnโt all that bad.
Still, Tessa couldnโt help but feel something strange about him. It was like there was something she just couldnโt get over in her mind. It felt off, like there was something wrong, especially lately, Tessa had been feeling like Julian was avoiding her. Whenever she asked, he was always busy. And sometimes, when she called him, he was always evasive. Thinking back to the last time she called, she remembered hearing a strange sound. Something didnโt feel right.
โJulian, I want to ask you something.โ
In a good mood, Julian didnโt notice anything odd in her tone. โGo ahead, ask me anything.โ
Tessa nodded. โLast time I called, I heard a strange sound on your end. What was that?โ
