Listen to this chapter:

Arnold didnโ€™t know how to comfort Grace. Seeing her like this, his heart ached too. After serving the Walton family for so many years, this was the first time heโ€™d seen Grace so vulnerable. In his mind, she had always been proud and confident, handling everything with grace and poise. But now, Arnold felt lost, unsure of what to do next.

Graceโ€™s body trembled for only a moment before she regained her composure. โ€œAlright, Arnold, you donโ€™t need to worry about me.โ€ Seeing the concern on Arnoldโ€™s face, Grace offered a reassuring smile, signaling that he didnโ€™t need to fret.

She was certain she wouldnโ€™t fall apart anytime soon. This family still needed her, and she couldnโ€™t just collapseโ€”it wasnโ€™t even an option. โ€œYou donโ€™t have to worry. Iโ€™ll push through.โ€

Arnold smiled, a sense of relief washing over him. โ€œI understand, Madam. I know you will. Iโ€™ve watched you build everything from nothing over the years. Iโ€™ve witnessed all the hardships youโ€™ve endured.โ€

Hearing this, Graceโ€™s heart tightened. It was bittersweet to realize that the struggles she had faced over the years hadnโ€™t gone unnoticed. When Aurora had misunderstood her earlier, Grace had felt hurt, but now, with her daughter ill, she was suffering even more. The quiet and peaceful house felt strange to her now. It was unsettling and too silent.

โ€œAlright, Arnold, Iโ€™m fine. You donโ€™t have to worry anymore.โ€ Grace straightened up. โ€œIโ€™ll make a call and check where Lucas is now.โ€ She couldnโ€™t let her daughter just leave with someone else like that. With her daughterโ€™s life hanging in the balance and the situation so urgent, how could she not be worried? After all, she only had this one daughterโ€ฆ

Thinking of this, Grace immediately composed herself and called Lucas again. This time, the call lingered for a moment, and it no longer went straight to voicemail. Hearing that, Graceโ€™s heart leaped. There was hopeโ€”did that mean the call was going through? Sure enough, the next moment, Lucasโ€˜ voice came through.

โ€œHello, Mom?โ€

Hearing him say โ€œMom,โ€ the nervousness that had gripped Graceโ€™s heart instantly eased. She had been anxious before, but now she felt much more at ease, no matter what. She was still his mother-in-law, and there was nothing to fear. This brat was just her son-in-law, after all.

โ€œYou little rascal, where did you take my daughter?โ€ It was clear from her voice that Grace was holding back tears.

Lucas, of course, could tell that Grace was scared. He froze for a moment, a little confused. After all, wasnโ€™t Grace always so indifferent before? She hadnโ€™t seemed particularly concerned about Aurora. Even after Aurora had been hospitalized for so long, Grace had only sent a butler. So, Lucas thought Grace wasnโ€™t very invested in Aurora, and didnโ€™t seem to care much about her, not even showing a hint of maternal love. That was why, when he took Aurora abroad for treatment, he hadnโ€™t informed Grace. But now, here she was, calling him directly. It caught him off guard.

โ€œMom, Iโ€™m with Aurora abroad, taking her for treatment. Weโ€™ve already arrived at the hospital.โ€
