Chapter 640

โ€œIโ€™m not the one calling the shots. If I were, things wouldโ€™ve ended much worse for you.โ€

With that, the director turned on his heel and stormed off, leaving everyone behind in stunned silence.

No one quite understood what he meant by that final comment.

They all stood frozen, too shocked to move.

But even if they wanted to speak, they didnโ€™t know what to say.

The man who had first stepped up to challenge the director now hung his head in defeat.

He quietly gathered his family and walked out.

Every movement was smooth and practiced, like it was something heโ€™d done a hundred times.

His family had wanted to say something, but after seeing the guilt on his face, they held back.

He was an adult now.

He had to make his own decisions and face the consequences.

Seeing that, the rest of the crowd fell completely silent.

They lowered their heads, especially those whose faces had shown up on the screen.

They didnโ€™t dare linger.

Some of them muttered quiet scoldings to their own family members.

Those who had just come to gawk werenโ€™t saying a word.

They had neither money nor influenceโ€“there was no ground to stand on, let alone a reason to argue.

The fate of the man earlier said it all.

There was no point wasting time.

It was better to leave now and try their luck at another hospital.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mom, Iโ€™ve learned my lesson. I swear I wonโ€™t get involved in other peopleโ€™s drama again.โ€

Other families were saying the same, a mix of soft reprimands and reluctant promises.

Even as adults, a little discipline was still necessary.

Take this situation, for instanceโ€“most of them had no idea what theyโ€™d gotten themselves into.

If they had known, would they really have let themselves get kicked out of the hospital with everyone else?

But now that things had come to this, no one said much.

They were going to have to look for another hospital anyway.

The head nurseโ€™s smile was practically spilling off her face.

Earlier, sheโ€™d thought this group would be a nightmare to deal with.

Now? Not so much.

It was all thanks to the director.

If it werenโ€™t for him, the chaos on the first floor couldโ€™ve easily spilled into a full-blown stampede.

After witnessing the entire scene play out, Megan couldnโ€™t help but grow a little introspective.

But Leonard suddenly turned to her and asked, โ€œMiss Quinn, who exactly is your cousin?โ€

At those words, two heavily disguised figures froze mid-step.

Megan was just about to respond when she noticed something odd.

She asked quietly, โ€œExcuse me, can I help you with something?โ€

Tessaโ€™s heart skipped a beat.

She quickly shook her head and pointed to her throat, then waved her hands.

Then she grabbed Julianโ€™s arm and hurried away.

Earlier, the crowd had done a good job shielding them from view.

But now that everyone had dispersed, Tessa and Julian didnโ€™t know where to hide.

They felt exposed and uneasy.

To say she couldnโ€™t speak.

All they could do was hide behind their masks, sunglasses, and hats, clinging to whatever sense of security that offered.

As they passed by Megan and Leonard, theyโ€™d overheard the question, and it sparked their curiosity.

That was what led to their sudden reaction.

But Megan hadnโ€™t recognized Tessa.

What stood out was how heavily dressed they were.

It was an unusual sight within a hospital setting.

Still, being in a foreign country where attire varied widely, it hadnโ€™t seemed worth dwelling on.

So, they hadnโ€™t thought much of it.
