Chapter 667
Once the thugs weighed it out, they quickly understood where they stood. Aurora could clearly see the hesitation on their faces. It was obvious that someone had put them up to this; otherwise, they wouldnโt be acting like this. That flicker of doubt earlier had been plain to see.
They were clearly trying to decide which side paid betterโMegan or whoever was pulling the strings behind the scenes. Realizing this, Aurora became even more certain that Tessa was the one behind it all. It was such a simple deductionโwhy hadnโt she seen it before?
Tessa had always been jealous. And considering how close Megan and Aurora had been growing up, it wouldnโt be surprising if Tessaโs envy had finally spilled over. Otherwise, everything that happened later wouldnโt have made sense.
As Aurora drifted in thought, the thugs had already begun slowly closing in on Megan. Feeling terrified, Megan kept stepping back, her eyes welling with tears. She clutched her backpack tightly, as if it were her last lifeline. She didnโt want to let go. Right now, Megan feared that if she let go, sheโd be left with nothing to save her. Would there be anything left to hold on to at all? That thought alone made her heart sink. And as she stared at those twisted, menacing faces, her fear only grew stronger.
โPleaseโฆ please let me go,โ she choked out. โMy dad has money. If you let me go home, I promise Iโll ask him to give you all the money you want.โ
Even at her age, Megan was smart enough to know that stalling was her only chance. It was also her way of buying time to run. While speaking, Megan quietly took small steps backward. But it didnโt take long for one of the smarter ones to catch on. One of the thugs stepped right past Aurora and quickly blocked Meganโs path.
โHey now, sweetheart, weโre being real nice to you, and youโre trying to play tricks on us?โ His patience was wearing thin. โYou think weโre a bunch of idiots? Call your dad, huh? If your dad doesnโt call the cops, Iโll eat shit standing on my head.โ
As he spoke, he slammed the stick in his hand hard against the nearby wall with a loud bang. The heavy thud startled Megan so badly she dropped to the ground too terrified to even know where to look.
Crouching down, she wrapped her arms tightly around her head. Her wide eyes were locked on the stick in front of her, terrified it might be aimed at her next. She didnโt dare say a word, lips pressed shut, holding her breath.
Seeing her like that only seemed to entertain the thugs more.
โWell damn, isnโt this girl a fun one?โ
โYeah, sheโs even scared of the stick. Thatโs cute, ha!โ
โAnd look how pretty she is. We really struck gold today.โ
Auroraโs eyes burned red with rage.
Bastards.
They werenโt even that old, yet they were capable of doing something so vile and depraved. Watching Megan so terrified tore at her. She clenched her fists tightly, praying she could stay here just a little longer. If she could buy herself enough time to uncover the truthโฆ If it really was Tessa behind all this, she wasnโt going to let her get away with it.
