Lucas never wanted to go through that again. Life without her had been nothing short of a nightmare. Everything felt dull and lifeless. Every time he opened or closed his eyes, he was alone. To him, life without her had lost all meaning. Each day felt painfully monotonous, colorless, and empty. He was truly done with living like that.

Now that Aurora was finally back, there was no way he’d let go so easily. Aurora was stunned when she heard what Lucas said. So, it was all for the sake of her health–she’d clearly overthought it. It was her fault.

“Alright, I get it now. You’re right. The doctor should check me first.” She nodded helplessly.

Lucas smiled warmly, full of affection. Their relationship had clearly reached a whole new level. “Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared everything you’ll need to eat. It’s all been arranged.”

Hearing that, Aurora looked up at Lucas’ sharp profile, feeling completely at ease. Sure enough, by his side, she didn’t need to worry about a thing. She should’ve let go of those concerns long ago. With him, she could truly relax and just be herself.

“Okay, I know.”

Lucas helped her lie down to rest, then pressed the call button for the doctor. Jason had originally been stationed at the diagnostics center. Because of what Julian had said, Jason now took the results of this evaluation very seriously. There was no way he’d let something like this damage the hospital’s reputation.

He simply couldn’t allow that. After working there for so long, Jason already saw himself as part of the hospital. There was no chance he’d let anyone drag its name through the mud. He wouldn’t accept it.

So, this time, he planned to personally oversee the entire evaluation. And the moment Lucas finished explaining, Jason immediately contacted the police. If others refused to believe them, the best solution was to bring in someone more authoritative.

Jason glanced coldly at Julian, who was being escorted in, and said sharply, “Take a good look–officers from the police department are here. And that substance was brought in by you. If anyone had the chance to tamper with it, it was you. Our hospital had no opportunity at all.”

Julian’s nerves began to fray, but he kept up the tough act and forced a reply, “Who knows what your intentions are? Let’s be real–right now, I can’t even lift a finger. In the end, I’m at your mercy, aren’t I?”

Jason was furious at his attitude. How could someone be so shameless and unreasonable? “What exactly are you trying to say?”

Julian raised his chin defiantly. “Let me go if you’re so confident. You’ve got the wrong person. You really think this can hold me down for life?”

Despite the panic inside, he stared at Jason with a look of righteousness. Jason was honestly stunned by his thick skin. He let out a cold laugh.

“Let you go? Not a chance.”
