Back when Walton Corporation ran into trouble, if Lucas hadn’t resolved things behind the scenes, Aurora probably wouldn’t have even brought it up to him. It was after that he developed a quiet habit of watching over her life from the sidelines. Whenever he noticed something she needed help with, he’d take care of it without a word.
Aurora shook her head now, her voice tinged with grievance. “I don’t know what’s going on. Ever since I woke up from the coma, I’ve found my emotions getting magnified so easily.”
Lucas’s heart skipped a beat. A sudden unease washed over him–this wasn’t like her. The Aurora he knew had never been like this.
Now, she seemed different. His tone grew more serious. “Rora, maybe we shouldn’t go to the company today. Let me take you for a check-up first, alright?” He couldn’t shake the thought that it might be a side effect from the medications. This emotional sensitivity had never shown up before. The sudden change left Lucas more than a little unsettled.
But Aurora shook her head. She felt that since they’d already come all the way to the company, turning back now would be a waste of time. Besides, this was just an emotional shift–it didn’t affect her ability to handle business. It wasn’t something that got in her way.
She explained her thoughts to Lucas, and he froze for a moment, caught off guard. Eventually, he nodded in agreement. “You’re right. You’re the leader of this company. You’ve been away for a month. It’s time to make an appearance–it’s been long enough.”
Lucas gripped her hand tighter. “I’ll be right beside you. Don’t be afraid.”
Aurora nodded, her smile spreading across her face. “Thank you.”
“You were the boy who saved me. Back in the days of my youth. If it weren’t for you, I might’ve gone my whole life without ever seeing the world outside.” Aurora thought and looked at Lucas with eyes full of warmth and quiet affection. Everything else—those unspoken words—she kept silently to herself. She was waiting for the right moment to tell Lucas.
Originally, she had planned to tell him the moment she woke up. But now, so much time had passed that even she had nearly forgotten. Bringing it up suddenly now felt awkward, even a little intrusive.
So, the two of them continued on, each carrying their own unspoken truth, bound by a wordless understanding neither dared to break.
Lucas led Aurora through the doors of the company. As expected, the receptionist greeted them from the front desk. But when she saw the two of them walking in together, her expression of shock was impossible to miss.
“Miss Aurora… is that really you? General Manager?” The young receptionist rushed around the desk, hurrying over to Aurora and giving her a thorough once-over. “Something’s off—seriously off.” She muttered to herself like she’d just uncovered a massive revelation.
And just like that, all of Aurora’s nervousness melted away. “What’s so off about it?” Aurora couldn’t help but laugh as she asked. How had she never noticed this receptionist had such a dramatic streak?
The young woman suddenly burst out, “My god, Miss Aurora! Do you know how long it’s been since I last saw you? A whole month—thirty straight days! Do you have any idea what went through us during that time?”
