Chapter 947
Before Aurora could say much to Lucas, the office door was knocked on again. Her brows furrowed slightly. โCome in.โ
Ian pushed the door open, looking a bit embarrassed. โUm, sorry to interrupt, Miss Aurora. Madam Grace just found out youโre back and asked to see you.โ
At those words, Auroraโs heart sank. She had known all along that not going to see her mother the moment she returned wasnโt the right thing to do. But with Tessa in the picture and everything she had doneโAurora truly didnโt know how to face her mother. In fact, she could probably guess what her mother wanted to say.
Lucas saw her go quiet and understood her hesitation immediately. He reached up and gently ruffled her hair. โItโs alright. Donโt worry,โ he said with a soft smile. โEvery hurdle can be crossed. And besides, sheโs your mother. Whatever it is, just talk it out.โ
Aurora looked up and met his eyesโwarm, tender, filled with love. That look was enough to drown her in affection. If she wasnโt careful, sheโd fall right into the net of tenderness he so easily wove around her. Her gaze shifted quickly as a light blush climbed up her ears. โAlright, I need to go see my mother now. No time to linger here,โ she said.
She stood up quickly and headed for Graceโs office. Lucas followed her out. Aurora turned, puzzled. โWhy are you coming? She only asked for me. You donโt need to worry about me. Iโm just going to see my own mother. I donโt need you tagging along.โ
Lucas rubbed his nose and lifted a finger, pointing in the opposite direction from where she was headed. โUm, Aurora, actually I was thinking of heading back to work firstโฆโ
The moment she heard that, Auroraโs face turned bright red. She quickly spun around and strode off toward Graceโs office, even breaking into a halfโrun. Lucas started off amused, but soon his tone turned worried. โHey, slow down! Thereโs no need to rush. Watch your step, make sure youโre looking where youโre going.โ Aurora didnโt even turn her head. She waved her hand behind her to signal she heard him. Right now, all she wanted was to escape that moment. God, just thinking about what sheโd said earlier made her want to dig a hole and disappear. How could anyone say something that awkward out loud? The worst part was, she hadnโt even realized how strange her words sounded. She had simply assumed Lucas wanted to go with her to Graceโs office to meet her mother. Turned out, they were just going their separate ways.
Aurora stopped outside Graceโs office, unable to bring herself to turn. Never mind how confidently sheโd spoken to Lucas earlier. Now that she was actually here, she felt terrified. To be honest, her heart was pounding. In the end, it was Ian who helped her out. Without hesitation, he turned the doorknob and gently nudged her forward into the room. Auroraโs face was still frozen in shock when Ian quickly shut the door behind her. โAlright, Miss Aurora, Iโm rooting for you,โ he called from the hallway. Deep down, Ian truly hoped Grace and Aurora could reconcile and start over.
