Chapter 947

Before Aurora could say much to Lucas, the office door was knocked on again. Her brows furrowed slightly. โ€œCome in.โ€

Ian pushed the door open, looking a bit embarrassed. โ€œUm, sorry to interrupt, Miss Aurora. Madam Grace just found out youโ€™re back and asked to see you.โ€

At those words, Auroraโ€™s heart sank. She had known all along that not going to see her mother the moment she returned wasnโ€™t the right thing to do. But with Tessa in the picture and everything she had doneโ€“Aurora truly didnโ€™t know how to face her mother. In fact, she could probably guess what her mother wanted to say.

Lucas saw her go quiet and understood her hesitation immediately. He reached up and gently ruffled her hair. โ€œItโ€™s alright. Donโ€™t worry,โ€ he said with a soft smile. โ€œEvery hurdle can be crossed. And besides, sheโ€™s your mother. Whatever it is, just talk it out.โ€

Aurora looked up and met his eyesโ€“warm, tender, filled with love. That look was enough to drown her in affection. If she wasnโ€™t careful, sheโ€™d fall right into the net of tenderness he so easily wove around her. Her gaze shifted quickly as a light blush climbed up her ears. โ€œAlright, I need to go see my mother now. No time to linger here,โ€ she said.

She stood up quickly and headed for Graceโ€™s office. Lucas followed her out. Aurora turned, puzzled. โ€œWhy are you coming? She only asked for me. You donโ€™t need to worry about me. Iโ€™m just going to see my own mother. I donโ€™t need you tagging along.โ€

Lucas rubbed his nose and lifted a finger, pointing in the opposite direction from where she was headed. โ€œUm, Aurora, actually I was thinking of heading back to work firstโ€ฆโ€

The moment she heard that, Auroraโ€™s face turned bright red. She quickly spun around and strode off toward Graceโ€™s office, even breaking into a halfโ€“run. Lucas started off amused, but soon his tone turned worried. โ€œHey, slow down! Thereโ€™s no need to rush. Watch your step, make sure youโ€™re looking where youโ€™re going.โ€ Aurora didnโ€™t even turn her head. She waved her hand behind her to signal she heard him. Right now, all she wanted was to escape that moment. God, just thinking about what sheโ€™d said earlier made her want to dig a hole and disappear. How could anyone say something that awkward out loud? The worst part was, she hadnโ€™t even realized how strange her words sounded. She had simply assumed Lucas wanted to go with her to Graceโ€™s office to meet her mother. Turned out, they were just going their separate ways.

Aurora stopped outside Graceโ€™s office, unable to bring herself to turn. Never mind how confidently sheโ€™d spoken to Lucas earlier. Now that she was actually here, she felt terrified. To be honest, her heart was pounding. In the end, it was Ian who helped her out. Without hesitation, he turned the doorknob and gently nudged her forward into the room. Auroraโ€™s face was still frozen in shock when Ian quickly shut the door behind her. โ€œAlright, Miss Aurora, Iโ€™m rooting for you,โ€ he called from the hallway. Deep down, Ian truly hoped Grace and Aurora could reconcile and start over.
