Chapter 90

With a dark expression, Ivy went to unlock the door. Just as the key was about to turn, the doorknob twisted, and the door swung open, revealing a pale and weak Thea. Wearing a nightgown, Thea looked around in confusion at the angry Ivy. "Mom, what's going on?" Emmalie rushed forward, excitedly grabbing Thea's hand. "Thea, you finally opened the door! Everyone was so worried!"

She pushed Thea aside, her eyes eagerly searching the room. Thea, anxious, quickly stepped forward to block Emmalie's gaze. "I'm fine. I just don't feel well. Mom, why are there so many reporters? You need to send them away. Don't let them film this." Thea's demeanor immediately aroused Ivy's suspicion.

Seething with anger, Ivy stepped forward and slapped Thea. "Do you have any idea what you've done?"

Thea almost lost her balance but steadied herself, looking at Ivy in shock. "Mom?" The disappointment and hurt in Thea's eyes stung Ivy, but she couldn't help resenting Thea for their predicament.

"Go kneel in the hallway while we go inside," Ivy commanded coldly. "Who is the man in there?"

Thea covered her face in silence, tears streaming down her cheeks. To Ivy, this was merely a sign of guilt.

Emmalie, unable to contain her satisfaction, said lightly, "Thea, what you've done is completely unacceptable. Even with your family's favor and a good match with Jake, you shouldn't act like this."

Thea closed her eyes, seemingly resigned. "If you think this way, there's nothing I can do. Mom, if you want to save your reputation and the Rowland family's, don't bring everyone inside."

Ivy looked down at her with icy disdain. "The Rowland family? You've done something so disgraceful and still have the audacity to call yourself a member of the Rowland family?" Emmalie feigned surprise. "Mom, look! It seems there's really someone on Thea's bed!"

Indeed, the blanket on Thea's bed was slightly raised, clearly forming the shape of a person. Seeing this, Ivy lost her rationality and stomped toward the room.

Thea quickly grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Are you sure you want to go this far? Even if I did have relations with another man, you know who is really responsible for this, don't you?" That question struck Ivy like a heavy hammer to her heart. A flicker of guilt crossed Ivy's face.

The drugs Ivy had administered were meant to bring Thea and Jake together, not to lead to this disastrous situation. Watching Thea cry in anguish made Ivy's resolve waver.

Just then, Jake spoke coldly from the side. "I've seen enough of this spectacle, Mrs. Rowland. I shouldn't involve myself, but I was just curious and decided to stay a bit longer. I have other matters to attend to, so I'll leave you to handle your family issues." Each word emphasized his disassociation from the Rowland family.

Ivy's face turned crimson with embarrassment. Emmalie, seizing the opportunity, blocked Jake's path. "Jake, what do you mean? Are you breaking up with Thea?"

Jake scoffed. "I've been separated from her for a long time. Today, I came to see her out of nostalgia for our past relationship, but we have no connection now. I hope the Rowland family don't misunderstand."
