Chapter 168

There was already tension between Isabella and Hudson. With Isabella’s proud nature, it was unlikely she’d appreciate Hudson’s goodwill. Without waiting for Hudson to ask, Ivana continued, “Dad, you should be nicer to her and make her feel important among us. In that way, in the future, she’ll have no choice but to help us out.”

As long as the scandal remained quiet during the Masterpiece Award, Hudson would surely have issues with Isabella. Ivana would stir things up a bit on both sides, making sure Isabella and Hudson would never reconcile.

Hudson pondered for a moment, carefully considering the feasibility of this plan. Seeing Hudson remain silent, Ivana added, “Isabella is actually very kind at heart. She definitely won’t refuse you, Dad.”

Ivana didn’t know whether Isabella was kind or not, but after spending so much time with her, she was sure Isabella could never make peace with Hudson. Right now, all she had to do was make Hudson dislike Isabella even more. That way, there would be no chance of the company ending up in Isabella’s hands.

Hudson looked up at Teana with a smile and said, “You’re always so understanding, Ivana. Let’s go with what you suggested: He thought it was unimportant to give Isabella a little taste of sweetness. The weight was lifted from his mind, and he leaned casually against the furniture, looking relaxed.

Ivana sweetly praised, “Dad, you’re the best. Only you can have a well-behaved daughter like me.” Hudson was amused by her, laughing out loud. If only Isabella were half as good as Ivana, he wouldn’t worry so much.

As Ivana looked at Hudson, a hint of coldness flashed in her eyes but quickly vanished, hidden deep inside. She wanted Hudson to hand the company over to her soon, so she wouldn’t need to put in all this effort figuring out these things. In her mind, she cursed, but on her face, she kept a well-behaved and sensible smile. She discussed with Hudson how to deal with Isabella.

In the Lane residence, the spacious room was adorned with luxurious furniture. There was a massive bed, a black leather couch, and a huge TV hanging on the wall at the foot of the bed, currently showing a video. Cameron lay on the bed, wearing disheveled and loose loungewear, his eyes fixed on the colorful video playing on the wall. After a long time, his lips curled into a delighted and surprised smile.

He jumped out of bed and said excitedly, “Wow, there’s finally some response. Dr. Loven is quite amazing!” It was worth enduring the pain of having needles all over his body, sitting like that for days and nights.

Just then, someone knocked on his door. He looked up towards the door and shouted impatiently, “Who is disturbing me at this time?” Although he grumbled complaints, he got up and staggered towards the door.

The door opened. It was Dominic. His voice was trembling with urgency. “Cameron, do you feel unwell anywhere?” He looked Cameron up and down, afraid there might be something wrong with him.

Cameron rolled his eyes at Dominic’s anxiety and said, “What could be wrong with me? I’m perfectly fine.” With a cheerful gesture, he pointed below with a grin. “And everything’s working down here too.”

This was the best news Dominic’d heard in a long time. He stared blankly at Cameron, somewhat unsure. “Really?” He glanced further down at Cameron, trying to confirm it for himself. He had been hoping for this news for so long and couldn’t believe it.

Cameron simply pulled down his pajama pants a bit to show Dominic. “See for yourself.” He didn’t lie about it.

Once Dominic confirmed it was true, the weight in his heart finally settled down. He couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with the trending topic on Twitter.

Cameron put his pants back on, looking at Dominic with confusion. “Why! What happened!?” He asked as he walked back into the room, lay down on the bed, propped two cushions behind his back, and then picked up the remote to change the TV channel.

Dominic walked in after him and tossed the phone to Cameron. “See for yourself.” Normally, he didn’t pay attention to celebrity news and never checked Twitter. The trending topic had been up for days, and if his secretary hadn’t suddenly mentioned it, he probably still wouldn’t know. He sat heavily on the sofa, full of agitation.

Cameron frowned, unsure why the secrecy. He wanted Dominic to tell him directly. He picked up the phone anyway, and just one glance left Cameron stunned. The woman in the video was Isabella.

He immediately rewound a bit and watched that part again. The video was playing, “Let’s welcome Dr. Lovett,” As the host finished speaking, Isabella appeared once more in Cameron’s sight. After repeating it a couple more times, Cameron was finally sure it was Isabella.

Cameron turned to Dominic, stammering, “Why—Why is she Dr. Loven?” In that moment, Cameron felt a chill run through his entire body. If any of those needles had been wrongly placed during the treatment that day, he might have lost his life.

Cameron shivered uncontrollably. He found it was just too terrifying.

Dominic crossed his arms over his chest; the air around him was tense as he said, “Now you understand why I was so worried about your health.” Both Dominic and Cameron were well aware that they had a really bad relationship with Isabella.

Cameron was so tense that his phone slipped from his hand onto the bed, the video still playing. It was entirely about how amazing Dr. Lovett was. Cameron knew very well how incredible Dr. Lovett was. But he’d never expected that Dr. Lovett was actually Isabella. He felt totally drained and asked weakly, “Dad, what should we do now?”

His health was improving, but he was far from being able to live a normal life or have a family. If he let Queenie continue the treatment, she could use it as a chance to get revenge, putting his life in danger. If he stopped the treatment, he’d be giving up his happiness for the rest of his life. Cameron began to regret ever getting involved with Isabella in the first place. If he hadn’t tangled with her, none of this would have happened.

Dominic didn’t reply right away. He was unsure of what to do and felt completely frustrated. He couldn’t think of anything Cameron couldn’t think of. They were completely stuck, unable to move forward or back. No path seemed right.

Dominic suddenly stood up and started pacing the room, cursing, “That old bastard Hudson is doing this on purpose. He knew all along that Isabella was Dr. Lovett and kept it under wraps while scheming against us.”

No wonder Isabella said earlier that it was all Hudson’s fault. Now it appeared those words were entirely true. Dominic looked at Cameron on the bed and said directly, “We must apologize to Isabella first. As for Hudson, we’ll deal with him slowly.”

Right now, nothing was more important than Cameron’s health. Cameron ran his fingers through his short hair irritably. “Will this really work?” Will that—Isabella really forgive us and keep treating me?” He felt all kinds of discomfort inside.

His condition was because of Isabella in the first place, and now he couldn’t get revenge. Instead, he had to go and ask for her help. But he had no choice but to do that.

Dominic halted, turned to Cameron, and said seriously, “Even if it seems unlikely, it’s a must. This is the only way forward. Keep your hatred for her in check for now; some revenge can wait. Our priority is Hudson.”

Even though Cameron was quite the playboy, he understood this much. He muttered, “Damn it. We must take down that old geezer Hudson. I can’t just sit on this anger without doing something about it. It’s driving me crazy.”

If anyone dared to scheme against Cameron, he’d make them pay the price.

Dominic nodded. “Alright, I’ll start preparing to meet Isabella.” He said nothing more and headed straight out the door.

Cameron watched the door close, and the sound from the video became clearer to him. He picked up the phone and decided to watch it directly. His eyes stayed on Isabella the entire time. “Damn, Isabella’s body is something else.” He truly regretted not being able to sleep with Isabella.
