Chapter 198

Habella shouted and mocked her. “What does it have to do with me if Thedion is happy!” Her voice wasn’t quiet, and the people nearby heard every word immediately. Ivana’s expression changed. She thought, Bitch. Her eyes filled with tears as she cried, “Bells, how can you say something like that? I’m your sister!”

Isabella felt so disgusted she was about to throw up. She thought, It’s amazing how Ivana’s skin could be so thick.

Samuel put down the flowers and looked at Isabella with some disapproval. “She’s not even a person. Why waste your time on her?” He remembered everything that was done to Isabella by those in the Stout family. He couldn’t possibly have anything nice to say. If it weren’t for Habella, his words would have been harsher.

Ivana was left speechless. Her face turned pale immediately, and she squeezed her bag tightly. She thought, “How can this man act like this? It must be Isabella, that despicable woman, saying something behind my back; otherwise, why would he speak like this?”

Isabella looked at Samuel, her lips curled into a smile as she nodded in agreement. “True, my fault. After all, humans and animals can’t talk to each other.”

Samuel really was the one. Not a single curse word, yet it was enough to embarrass Ivana. Ivana tried to say something more, but Samuel didn’t give her the chance, closing the car window and shutting everything. He said coldly, “Eyesore.”

Samuel’s words made Isabella’s smile grow wider, and suddenly curious, she laughed and asked, “Isn’t she so gentle and lovely? Don’t you feel even a little sympathetic for her?” After all, Jayden was initially drawn to Ivana’s sweet and charming demeanor. A delicate little girl like her naturally brought out a man’s protective instincts.

Samuel’s brow twitched as he glanced sideways at Isabella and frowned, asking, “Are you questioning if there’s something wrong with my eyes?” Just looking at someone like Ivana for too long was hard on the eyes. He couldn’t understand why Isabella asked that question.

Isabella froze, looked ahead of the car, and sarcastically said, “Some people really do have eye problems. They treat women like that as if they’re treasures.” Samuel’s gaze fell on Isabella, his eyes darkening slightly as he reached into the glove compartment for the candy. He unwrapped it and placed it right at Isabella’s lips. “Have one, it’s sweet.”

Isabella turned to look at Samuel, momentarily startled. His way of comforting someone was definitely unique.

She looked at the candy in Samuel’s hand, lowered her head, and took it into her mouth. The touch of her lips on his fingertips made Samuel freeze momentarily, his gaze suddenly deepening as he looked at Isabella. As Isabella tasted the candy, the creamy sweetness spread throughout her mouth, and the happiness on her taste buds quickly reached deep into her heart. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she relaxed back in her seat. Running her tongue over her lips, she softly said, “Tastes good, really sweet.”

The pink tip of her tongue caught Samuel’s attention, and the memory of their intimate kiss last night suddenly filled his mind. Samuel’s Adam’s apple moved up and down a few times before he quickly turned his gaze away. But it was the fingertips that Isabella had just touched. He couldn’t help but pinch them with two fingers, a burning heat that wouldn’t go away within him. In a raspy voice, he murmured, “Let’s go.”

Isabella noticed something off in his voice, turned back to him with a puzzled expression, and asked, “What’s wrong with… your voice! Did you catch a cold?” He seemed perfectly fine just a moment ago, and then suddenly, it changed like this out of nowhere. Samuel cleared his throat. “It’s nothing.”

But his voice only got hoarser; clearing it didn’t help at all. Isabella turned slightly, a worried expression on her face. “What’s going on?” As she spoke, she reached out to touch Samuel’s forehead, carefully feeling its temperature, and then touched her own forehead. Isabella murmured, “No high fever…” Yet she still couldn’t stop worrying, her palm gently rubbing Samuel’s cheek. Her soft fingers roamed everywhere, like little flames, making Samuel’s body temperature rise significantly. Samuel grabbed Isabella’s hand, which kept moving around, and whispered, “Bella, don’t move around.”

Isabella looked up into Samuel’s eyes, which were filled with desire. In that moment, it was like a fire suddenly ignited on Isabella’s face. Isabella quickly sat up straight, her eyes avoiding Samuel as she stared directly ahead. Her heart beat faster in that instant. Isabella tried to pull her hand back, but Samuel held it tightly, his voice rough, “Let me hold it for a while.” They were just simple words, yet to Isabella, they burned like wildfire, making her heart tremble. A strong sense of intimacy filled the already cramped car. Isabella’s entire focus was on the hand linked with his.
