Chapter 68

Inside the spacious VIP ward, decorated in warm, soft tones, a single rose filled the air with a faint fragrance. A gentle breeze drifted in through the slightly open window, creating a soothing calm. This didn't feel like a hospital room at all; it was more like a luxurious hotel.

Luna lay in bed, an IV drip nearby, her eyes closed. After a long while, her eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened them. Jessica, who had been sitting by her bedside, rushed forward, tears welling in her eyes as she gripped Luna’s hand. "Luna, you're finally awake!"

When Luna had collapsed outside the operating room, Jessica had been terrified. She was immensely relieved to have been at the hospital, especially with Dr. Kessler present. Otherwise, she couldn't imagine what might have happened.

Luna squeezed Jessica’s hand weakly, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Why are you crying? I'm not dead yet." She reached up to wipe the tears from Jessica's cheeks. Luna's composure seemed oddly at odds with the situation.

Jessica stomped her foot in frustration. "Don't say things like that!" She thought, She's the one who's unwell, yet she's comforting me. It only made Jessica feel worse. Luna's face was pale, but her smile persisted.

A knock sounded on the door. Both women turned to see Charles, in his white lab coat, standing at the entrance. He strolled toward the bed, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a report. He glanced at Luna and said casually, "Oh, you're awake. Good. Looks like you're not in too bad shape."

Luna glared at him, rolling her eyes. I've never met such an unreliable doctor, she thought. Jessica's gaze flickered between them, unsure of the strange atmosphere. Worried Luna might explode, Jessica moved closer, gently trying to calm her. "Luna, please…"

Luna shot her a reassuring look, then turned to Charles. "I can still get up and beat you into the ground. Wanna give it a go?" She wasn't about to back down, even weakened.

Charles raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. He placed the report on the table. "Your test results are out."

Luna struggled to sit up, aided by Jessica. Once settled, they both examined the report, taking turns reading it aloud. As Luna stared at the words, a chill ran through her. She looked up at Charles, her voice soft with disbelief. "A heart condition?"

"No wonder I've been feeling so strange lately," she thought. "It's like there's been a giant weight pressing on my chest." She held the report, her mind blank. Jessica, on the other hand, burst into tears, her hands shaking. How could this happen to Luna? She's still so young! she thought. What's going to happen now?

Charles sat on the sofa, his tone calm and steady. "It's not that big of a deal. You just need to keep your temper in check." Heart conditions like this are common in our department, he thought, though he knew this was a serious case.

Luna set the report down, rolling her eyes. "Thanks a lot." She lacked the energy to argue.

Charles shrugged, unfazed. "It's the mildest form of heart disease. Take your medication on time, keep a regular schedule, and get some moderate exercise. You'll be fine." His words, though simple, held a reassuring weight.

Luna gathered her thoughts. Life and death are in the hands of fate, she mused, and wealth and honor are determined by the heavens.

Before she could speak, Charles gestured to the reports. "I left a business card in there. If you have any questions, give me a call."

Luna raised an eyebrow, spotting the card. Maybe this guy isn't as unreliable as he seems, she thought.

Jessica, however, continued to sob. "Luna, how could you end up with heart disease?" She's like a fiery rose, Jessica thought, a sunflower full of life and energy. Now, the rose is wilting. The sunflower is sick. Without surgery, there's no way to truly cure it.

Luna glanced at Jessica, who was crying uncontrollably. With a faint smile, she beckoned her closer. "Stop crying," Luna teased. "You look ugly when you cry." But she gently wiped the tears from Jessica's cheeks.

Jessica stamped her foot. "Luna!"

Luna lowered her hand, relieved. She handed the reports to Jessica. "Alright, enough tears. Pack these up for me. And when you go pick up my medication, get me some strawberries. I suddenly feel like eating some."

Chapter 68 (continued)

Charles raised an eyebrow, surprised by the closeness between Luna and her assistant. I thought she’d be more of a tyrant, he mused, but it seems like she’s actually pretty chill. He hadn't known who Luna was before, as she always wore a mask. After saving her in the operating room, the nurses had excitedly told him about her many accomplishments. "So, she's the famous director Luna. I didn't expect her to be such a big deal," he thought, surprised.

Jessica quickly packed the reports and nodded. "Okay, I'll go get them right away." It's rare for Sister Luna to ask for something like this, she thought. She usually doesn't have cravings.

Turning to Charles, who was lounging on the sofa, she bowed slightly. "Dr. Kessler, thank you so much for taking care of Luna." Without waiting for a response, she hurried out of the room.

Charles leaned back, a smirk playing on his lips. "Your assistant is much more polite than you."

Luna didn't argue; she nodded in agreement. "Of course." I'm too hot-headed for all that social nicety stuff, she thought. That's why I rely on Jessica to handle it. Otherwise, her temperament might jeopardize business deals.

Luna looked at Charles and said directly, "I want to be discharged. Handle the discharge papers for me." She needed to join a film crew in a few days and couldn't afford to stay in the hospital.

Charles immediately frowned and refused. "No way."
