Chapter 63ย  โ€œIf weโ€™d started searching for her right after she disappeared, we mightโ€™ve had a shot at stopping it. But now itโ€™s been over twenty days, and sheโ€™s probably been smuggled out of the countryโ€ย  Joshua was about to light a cigarette but thought better of it, remembering he was at the Reyes place, and tucked it away โ€œLately, human trafficking and organized crime are wreaking havoc overseas, affecting so many families.โ€ย  โ€œIโ€™ve seen the news.โ€ย  โ€œThe news?โ€ Joshua scoffed. โ€œItโ€™s way worse than what the TV shows, especially for women. Getting caught by those monsters is a living nightmare. Mrs. Reyes is lucky sheโ€™s young and beautiful. They wonโ€™t just toss her aside like so many others. But beauty can be aย  curse tooโ€ฆย  Joshua let the thought trail off, but Mark got the message, his face darkening.ย  Even if we find her, she might not be the same Mrs. Reyes: Would the Reyes family accept her back like that?โ€ย  Chaseโ€™s voice came from behind them, firm and unwavering. โ€œYes, no matter what Armanda has become, I will find her. Start digging for information right away, see if sheโ€™s fallen into their hands.โ€ย  โ€œYes, Mr. Reyes.โ€ย  Joshua humed off, and I couldnโ€™t help but chuckle to myself.ย  Chase, should I praise your undying love? Youโ€™d prefer to think I was sold rather than dead.ย  If I truly became as tainted as they claim, would you still take me back? Of course not. Chase is too proud. Itโ€™s just his ego talking forย  now.ย  Once Joshua left, Chase sank into a garden chair.ย  The night before, a heavy rain had washed everything clean, leaving the air fresh and fragrant with the scent of greenery. The world seemed newly minted.ย  rein full bloom. Chase stared at them, lost in his thoughtsย  The plum trees wereย  *MEย  Reyes, you donโ€™t look so good. Maybe you should take a break. Iโ€™ll let you know the moment we hear anythingโ€ย  Chase tightened his grip on the swingโ€™s armrest, his eyes distant. โ€œAmanda loved sitting here to soak up the sun.โ€ย  Sensing his spirits down, Mark tried to offer some comfort. โ€œYeah, back then, you and Mrs. Reyes were inseparable. Sheโ€™d swing, and youโ€™d be there to push her.โ€ย  I noticed the veins on his hand standing out, and his voice took on a wistful tone. โ€œBut itโ€™s been years since I last pushed her.โ€ย  He opened his hands, one still showing the marks from gripping the armrest too tightly. โ€œHow did we end up like this?โ€ย  I wanted to ask him that myself. How did two people so in love end up here?ย  We were separated by life and death. I hated him to my com, yet I couldnโ€™t get my revenge and only watched him wander around like a ghost.ย  Mark sighed deeply. โ€œDo you really not know why?โ€ย  Itโ€™s because of Nicole.ย  Everyone knew, except him.ย  โ€œDid I really mess up? Is it too late to fixย  x things now? Could Amanda ever forgive me?ย  Mark shook his head. โ€œAs Joshua said, Mrs. Reyes has been gone over twenty days. If sheโ€™s been trafficked abroad, I fear the worstโ€ฆโ€ย  Chapter 64ย
