Chapter 64 The sudden disappearance of women had the entire city buzzing, especially after some bloggers started spilling the beans about the murky world of cyber scams. This dark industry, usually hidden from the public eye, was now being laid bare for everyone to see. Chase didn’t need a deep dive to understand that any woman caught up in that mess was in serious trouble. So, he called up some bigwigs from the local business scene. The Reyes family was famous for handling huge projects worth millions, if not billions. Normally, someone like Chase was out of reach, but now, these powerful figures were practically falling over themselves to meet him. In the room, a few female PR reps were keeping company. Chase sat in the middle booth, cigarette in hand, looking a bit wom out and jaded. I’d never seen this side of him before. At first, I was desperate for him to find my body, hoping for some peace and closure, maybe even a chance to vanish from this world. But now, I was in no rush. Watching from a distance, I could see that as long as he didn’t know I was gone, he was stuck in this endless search. His eating habits and sleeping cycle were a mess. He tossed and turned every night–perhaps this was karma at work? om my perch, I watched the spectacle below. The group’s leader, sleazy as ever, couldn’t keep his hands to himself around the young women. “Mr. Reyes, we heard you wanted to collaborate with us. What makes us worthy of teaming up with the Reyes Corporation?” “Come on, don’t sell yourselves short. He wouldn’t come to us unless he had a real problem. Just tell us what you need, Mr. Reyes, and we’ll do our best, no strings attached.” Chase finally sat up, putting out his cigarette. His voice was rough. “I need your help finding someone. She vanished at the start of the month, and I’m worried she got caught by traffickers.” The guys, sharp as they were, seemed hesitant to dive into such a risky situation. Everyone knew the heads of these international scam rings had roots here and were tangled in a web of power “Mr. Reyes, this is serious. Why not go to the police?” Chase picked up his whiskey, swirling the ice. “If the police were any good, would there still be so alert now, what about those already taken? By the time they find them, it could be too late.” ✓ missing? Even if they’re on I knew why he avoided the police–he’d missed his chance. He and the Kennedy family had told the cops to back off. How could someone as proud as him admit he was wrong? Chase knocked back his drink and slammed the glass down. “I know you guys have connections with those scam bosses overseas. I’m asking for a personal favor. Bring her back, and the Reyes family owes you big time. Just name your price.” That was a hefty offer. A favor from the Reyes family could skyrocket their businesses. Gregory carefully asked, “Mr. Reyes, who is this woman to you?” “She’s my..” Chase paused, then switched gears. “She’s my cousin.” I leaned back, silently chuckling. Since I died, he’d been sinking lower and lower in my eyes. If I really had been caught by scammers, my reputation would have been ruined. How could the Reyes family take a tarnished woman as his wife? Even if I were found alive. Chase would still divorce me.
