Chapter 103

“A silver needle?” Lena was surprised by Cameron’s seemingly genuine expression. Could he be telling the truth? Regardless, her pride prevented her from admitting it. She asked coldly, “Hmph, what silver needle? Who do you think you’re fooling?”

Cameron shook his head and remained silent. Lena furrowed her brows. Why was this guy so annoying? It seemed he’d rather die than say another word.

As the tension lingered, several black Rolls-Royce Ghosts approached from a distance. Each was worth tens of millions. Particularly eye-catching were their license plates, which bore the words VA! The convoy stopped before Lena and her group. The car doors opened, and well-trained men in black suits quickly surrounded the black Lincoln. Leading them was an older man with white hair. Despite being in his seventies, he didn’t look too old. Though his hair was white, his gaze was sharp, and his steps were steady. A powerful aura emanated from him, indicating he was an expert. Lena recognized him as a formidable opponent, even stronger than herself.

“Otis!” Cameron’s eyes flickered.

“Little guy, long time no see,” Otis said with a faint smile.

“Otis, it’s been a while,” Cameron replied, smiling back. Otis was the only elder in the Jones family who had always been polite to him. He was also Laura’s trusted butler and, significantly, an expert.

“Otis, you’re here!” Laura immediately got out of the car.

“Ms. Jones, I apologize for alarming you. Please punish me,” Otis said, lowering his head.

“Otis, don’t say that. It’s my fault for coming out without informing you,” Laura said, quickly helping Otis up; her expression, no longer cold, softened with gentleness.

Otis had watched her grow up and was one of the people she trusted most.

“Ms. Jones, it’s not safe to stay here long. Let me escort you back,” Otis suggested.

“Okay,” Laura nodded.

Otis then looked at Cameron. “Little guy, come with us.”

“No thanks, Otis. I’ll go back on my own,” Cameron smiled.

“Alright, then take care on your way,” Otis said, smiling and not insisting. He knew about Cameron and Laura’s history.

“Wait a minute. This guy has to come back with me to the military region for questioning. He can’t leave yet!” Lena interrupted.

“His statement will be taken by me, and I’ll be responsible for anything that happens. I assume you have no objections, Colonel Bailey?” Otis replied with a gentle smile.

Lena wanted to refuse, but considering the other party’s strength and the Jones family’s backing, she reluctantly agreed.

“Alright. Since you’re vouching for him, I’ll relent.”

“Thank you, Colonel Bailey,” Otis said gratefully, then looked kindly at Cameron. “Little guy, take care on your way.”

“Otis, I’ll take my leave, then.”

Cameron smiled as he left. Laura watched him go, a fleeting hint of reluctance in her eyes. Otis sighed, observing her.

He knew Laura couldn’t forget Cameron. It was a pity, however, that she carried the hopes of the entire family. They couldn’t be together, even if they loved each other—unless Cameron regained the recognition of the Morgan family and became the young sir. Even then, it was only a possibility. He needed to surpass his previous status or possess absolute strength to be with Laura. Judging by current events, he lacked both.

Otis believed Laura understood this, which is why she hadn't revealed the truth of what happened to him.
